I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lawsuit over this honestly. I don’t think student fees should be allowed to be used for this purpose especially when they already have the revenue to pay them.

Most schools have historically done similar for athletics and to fund other things on campus. Otherwise, those schools wouldn't be able to fund them. Now, the NIL might be an issue, but I would imagine what is strictly for athletics department purposes will be a non issue.

How do they justify then paying that fee out of academic scholarship money?
Lab fee? Good.
Books? Good.
$200 for a 4 star WR? Not so good.
I think the private foundation/organization/endowment, etc. funding the scholarship might have a hard time with it as well.

NIL funding is supposed to come from the private sector, not the university.

If you have evidence that the university is funding NIL, then they are in another NCAA mess.

It’s being used to make up for the 12.5 million that the university has incurred due to NIL.
