The U.S. isn't exactly setting it on fire over there but found an interesting Hawk connection. Jovanni Tovar just won it at 55KG for Columbia. He is from Miami though and is coached by his Dad but also trains at Mocco and Lugo's clubs. He teched the USA Rep (Karenbauer) 10-0 in the first period.

We will end up with 2 medals. It's our worst performance since 2019 when we had 2 medals and got 5th. In the last 15 years we have had 1 medal twice and now this will make the 3rd time we have had 2 medals since 2011

I wonder if we are going after him (Jovanni). I just don’t know where he will fit in the lineup in the future (28/29) eventually these weight classes will be manned by

Two Americans won gold wrestling for other countries. Also, defending champ Ariah Mills wasnt able to participate due to being injured.

Just didnt have the star power this year compared to previous years but still a lot of solid kids.

They were gassing him up on social media throughout the tournament (as was Mocco) - so my guess is you're correct.

Men's Greco (6th) actually outplaced the Freestyle squad (7th) this year - which I can't imagine has been said very often in the past.

Meanwhile, the women took the team title (Team USA's first since 2021) thanks to four golds, a silver and three bronzes.

Of note: Iowa's top 2027 target (Taina Fernandez) became just the fifth woman in history to win three U17 World titles - and the first-ever non-Japanese athlete.

Fernandez finishes her U17 career with a 12-0 record including eight pins, three tech. falls and a 13-6 decision - the latter result marking the lone match in which she surrendered a single point. This week, she won all four of her matches by first-period pinfall.

She'll be on her first U20 team next month, alongside four current Hawkeyes.

Both class 2028 not committed yet. Reyna and his dad run Gladiator wrestling club . Tovar trains with his dad at a different club . Lugo also has a club in the area now as well .

Oh, I was way off lol. I don’t know why I thought I saw him committing somewhere; but appreciate the insight/feedback. EDIT: I confused Elvis Solis with Jovanni Solis.

I thought Tovar was training with Lugo at the Miami Hawks. Many on this board have been saying the Bachmanns are close with Tovar, are they also close with Solis with him being on team PR?

Will be interesting if we heavily recruit both of them, which I hope we do and land them.

I agree, plus LHP has been looking good this past year and we got Shamus Regan from that powerhouse. Also, IMG is down there. Florida is turning to a powerhouse state. Good for the sport!

Both Lugo and Bretli are on good terms with Iowa.
