Jakarri taking the lazy narrative isn't really surprising.

We don't always agree, and I'm not sure he's a UK fan, but I think Jakarri is at least consistent and knows the game. Don't think he's here just to stir up trouble, but I understand how he rubs some folks the wrong way.

Then again, I rub a lot of folks the wrong way.

They're under 19 and Canada has a ton of talent. The US might have a better top to bottom roster.. But it really doesn't matter how good the 10th player in the line-up is. If 1 through 5 are balling, it just doesn't matter..

Fair Cal. It's clear. Must be done. Save Kentucky basketball.

You people are ******* retarded and I mean that in small bus talk.

We go through this with every loss Coach Cal experiences. We have the butt sniffers, who defends the coach no matter what happens and the butt showers, who have never lost a game and are never happy.

The truth is ====== Sports is sports and sometimes the outcome makes you go hmmmm. Sometimes it makes you wonder if its fixed, if players care, if the coach is drunk, etc.

Win or lose, Cal is a great coach but he is not a perfect coach.

The thing I got out of this is a reminder that we should not be so quick to anoint these youngster as the next great star based on All-Star games and FIBA tourney games.

I started buying into the hype myself. "Washington is a beast" and "Diallo is unstoppable" and "Vanderbilt is amazing." I do it every year, we all do. After seeing them play like 18 year old kids today, it's time to dial back the expectations.

We will have a team where the top six are likely Freshmen. A team with 8 Freshmen and 3 Sophs. No Junior or Senior leaders. They will have games like Diallo and Washington had today. We will lose some games. Been saying 5-6 losses. I think that is a safe bet.

Now, I am not saying this team can not become a Final Four/Championship caliber team. I am just saying we need to temper our expectations for these individual guys and not think they are going to come in and dominate college basketball as Freshmen. There's no Davis, Towns, or Wall on this roster. They can become a monster TEAM, though, if things come together just right.

I am not worried at all about Cal or recruiting, though. I hate it for him personally, this might have blown his chances at ever being the USA Olympic team coach. But it will have very little effect on UK.

The U19 team didn't shoot well (32.9% overall, 35.5% 2-pointers, 26.1% 3-pointers and 58.1 % FTs). They may have had a couple more TOs then you would want (14) but probably not a deciding factor. Sometimes, teams just don't shoot well enough to win and 32.9% isn't going to cut it in a semi-final unless the other team isn't hitting as well. Canada shot 42% for the game (which isn't great but good enough this time); there's the reason for the USA loss.

I've coached games where my team was better but we shot like crap and loss and vice versa. It happens because we're human and sometimes there's nothing we can do as coaches to change that outcome.

Ask him who he thinks Kentucky's starting 5 should be lol.

When I read his prediction, whew. It'll put gaping holes in the theory that he knows the game.

No offense to the Maryland fan.

I've said many times that while Cal is still the goat recruiter, he's slipped a bit at landing the top 5 guys, and with our system they are necessary. It's usually met with "we got the number one recruiting class what are you talking about!!!". Completely missing the point.

With these young talented teams, we need a beast, preferably in the middle. Bamba was that guy this year, and we missed again.

I still think we can win it all, but someone will have to play above their ranking. I hope we've got one of those.

I think our next championship will probably be with a legit top 1-5 guy on our roster, only adding to my theory that if we dont have experienced studs on roster, we need a true NBA stud somewhere to offset it. A guy like Wall, Davis, Cousins, or Kat.

Bucs, this is the best post of all including my previous ones. I also fell for the Hype that Diallo is this superstar and unstoppable especially where it looked like he might be NBA ready. Whoops. Not saying he wasn't good or he wouldn't have been on the team. But, if anything it also reflects that the NBA drafts many on potential and it is a diluted product with all the expansion of how things used to be. He was not Jordan out there or even the best. You could argue though that something is equally amiss with how these games are played when Wynyard was probably an All-star or Cal has not been using him correctly.

Finally it also removes my doubt that Cal was making a mistake last season not playing Diallo and he could have been that one addition to get us the Championship. I don't know that he would have beaten anyone out of their position. I know all of this sounds like I am down on him and I am not. I know he will be good. But, Bucs your post is right on.

Ugh, Washington and Diallo still missing fts.

This is a real simple case of Cal just needing to stick to his threat of "If you can't do......I can't play you". He will do this. If you can't make FT's-you can't play late in a game and if you do, you can't have the ball. Diallo had a crappy tournament after a hot start, and PJ is a helluva player who needs to take FT shooting seriously because UK has options all over to play in his place if he can't make FT's. Talented as he is, you can't afford the team to suffer because a guy won't work on this part of his game.

Yeah the thing is neither are bad at free throws normally. Neither are great either but they both shoot in the mid to high 60's. PJ just had a bad stretch in these games. I wouldn't want either at the line when the game matters mind you but neither are Marcus lee either. PJ was the best player for the tourney as a whole on the team IMO. Diallo was top 4 as well but his last few games weren't as good as his first few games. Quickley , Pritchard , Wiley and Reddish were also really good. But the simple fact is the US didn't win due to so many top 19 year olds like Porter turning this down and then guys like Knox and Vanderbilt get hurt and lose their chance as well. Cal deserves some of the blame but not near all of it . If Porter , Knox and JV alone are on this team then we beat Canada IMO .

The format of the tournament sucks too. Canada lost to Spain. We crushed Spain. Canada gets Italy in the championship. We crushed Italy.

If Canada wins, we will have identical records. Should get a rematch.
