Is there a rule that this program absolutely may no longer get, develop, or keep an OLB who was decently rated coming out of HS?

I've been critical of Walters but man somebody is gonna need to make the case for me of what makes DeWitt worth having on this staff. Don't say OLB play and don't say special teams play.

I do believe our OLB recruiting and development has been very poor, but Ferguson wasn't a very highly rated recruit, we snatched him at the last second from OSU after Riley was hired.

Here's his recruiting profile.

I'd argue the linebacker play in general has been the weakest part of the entire team. Really need a talent and development upgrade across the board but especially at LB.

I don't think talent is the main issue. In the last few years when have you actually seen a player get better at that position? We've seen more guys regress than get better. That kind of thing shouldn't happen and it never happens to well coached teams.

He was a senior so this does not affect the future of the program in any way. It is too bad that he could not finish out his career on a positive note, I am sure there will be some regret to this as he looks back on it years from now.

yep, players never get passed over, play worse or transfer at alabama, ohio st, etc

only linear progression so easy to measure it jumps off the screen on a weekly basis

But but but he wasn't a four star so we shouldn't have to worry about him leaving/getting kicked off the team/ etc. Amirite, Uber?

You have to remember most of these guys were recruited for a 4-3 not the 3-4 we are playing. Square peg. Round hole.

It's very rare a player will actually get worse as they go through the program at those places. And if they do, they probably won't last long. Regression has been happening more often than not here. When that happens, it's obviously a coaching issue.
Sure some guys may get jumped at other places, but they have a guy that's been developed well to replace them.

You actually think we would play any better if we ran a 4-3? Last I checked, linebackers still have to cover in a 4-3 and they still have to fulfill their run responsibilities. Defensive linemen still need to know how to pass rush in a 4-3 and have gap responsibilities in a 4-3. None of the fundamental things we've been terrible at all year change just because you have 4 down linemen instead of 3.

Where is all the "he left" coming from? He was dismissed from the team. Getting kicked off the team is not a trivial action.

Nobody should shed a tear.
Saw him at the Indiana game where he was “unavailable” to play.
Just watching the body language of these guys on game day and how they handle their business shows a lot IMO
Disinterested would be an understatement.

Why are all of these disinterested bench players, that don’t play, make the travel roster?
In his case, we're short on linebackers and I think he played some on special teams. I hear some of the stories and I just think man there has to be a walk on linebacker who gives a sh## and knows where he's supposed to get to on any given play.

I think you’re good at this point... it’s ok if you don’t take a shot at our staff every chance you get... you have made it very clear that you’re not a fan of the staff we get it bro... we get it....

Why limit it to outside linebackers? Inside linebacker play hasn’t been much better, if at all.

Do you have any insight there? Daishon Neal is also on the travel roster as well
Is there much to gain from travel roster tea leaves?

no insight, just curious as to why all of these energy suckers and poor attitudes are still getting practice reps with the top couple of units. They rarely play in games

You mean just like people that try to blame the players every chance they get? Listen I was high on some of these assistants coming in. I had heard that Austin was a good coach and I was excited about Ruud as well. But in 2 years and you haven't shown anything or any sign of improvement as an assistant coach, that doesn't cut it at a program like Nebraska. Any sign of improvement at all in year 2 and I would want to keep most of the assistants, but we may very well be looking at 6 straight losses to end the season. That's not even remotely acceptable at such a storied program. Although some doubts have started to creep in, I think Frost can and will get things turned around. However he will have to make some changes to his staff in order to do so. I still support Frost 100%.

At least Ruud's not an *******. If there's only 1 coach that doesn't come back next year, it needs to be Dewitt.

i still don’t see Maryland beating us. They are worse then us on defense and our offense is a tad better then theirs. We may lose to Wisconsin and maybe even Iowa but I doubt we lose to Maryland. 5-7 maybe the record we are looking at and hoping we get lucky to back into a bowl game again like we did during Mike Riley’s run and he went 5-7.

And I’d have to say our DBs have progressed, Lamar Jackson more team then anyone. Dismuke is another DB that’s got it going as well. But I get it, we have had a few players take a step backwards (Adrian Martinez to name one bit honestly, outside him, I can’t think of another the regressed...maybe hasn’t improved but not regressed...which make me think TALENT ISSUE?) So there is that...GBR
