Coach Cal knows his players and what he needs to do that brings out the best. My guess is that Herro is a very confident player and so Cal doesn't need to "build him up" as much but rather keep him humble and hungry. Nick Richardson on the other hand strikes me as someone who needs encouragement and confidence.
Not talking about building him up.
Just giving him props every now and then when they are due. He does not do it. All negative

I have noticed this as well. I don't know for certain ,obviously, but i think cal is doing this on purpose. Im pretty sure hes got a mental approach with Tyler. He knows that Hero is an alpha and doesn't want to heap too much praise on him. Tyler performs much better when he doesnt get "big headed". Confidence is great and i think Cal ia pushing him too his potential. When confidence turns into cockyness Tyler plays much less of an overall game. This kid is a straight baller. He will most likely have a long NBA career. You can find plenty of guys who can shoot like him but its hard finding those that also do as much as him in all other aspects. Tyler is a great team player. Its been a JOY to watch the kid grow into such a baller.
^This and nothing else. Herro is the unquestioned MF alpha dog. And Cal is smart...you keep an alpha dog hungry, he’s a vicious creature.

As someone who’s watched Cal very closely for years, and attended UM during his time there, it’s frustrating how many people don’t get the guy at all.

Its not that I dont get it , I get it , I just dont like it . So many on here fall in line with whatever Cal says or does ( I know thats not you Morg ) . I appreciate him and want him here 100% , but I do disagree with some stuff he does and doesnt do . Like refusing to attempt to score on OOB plays for one .

Alpha dog is the goofiest , dumbest term ever to describe a player , FWIW if you want to call someone a Alpha dog it sure the hell isnt Tyler Herro , kid is more like a choir boy than a player with a mean streak or aggrsive enough to be even be called a leader , Tyler is my fav player but he isnt a leader on this team , he isnt an " alpha dog" either .. he's just really really good . Alpha's *** .

Does the same to PJ it’s a motivator

Many times PJ has stood like a statue while the guy he is guarding sticks a three , PJ backs off , hands down , and the guy says Thank you and sticks a three , happened against Florida at home last week and yesterday , and against Alabama yesterday .. Cal doesnt even flinch . I dont buy that comparison at all.

Cal is pushing Tyler to be the best version of himself. If he’d been praising him since the beginning of the year, Tyler would have thought he was doing enough and he wouldn’t be as good as he is now.

Do people STILL not get that everything Cal says in front of a camera is very calculated?
It should be obvious to anyone. It’s the same with PJ. Cal is driving these guys to be better. Meanwhile we have fans on here wearing their girly pants and getting their feelings hurt over Cal’s comments. It’s truly laughable.

For some very odd reason I see that lack of appreciation from Cal towards Tyler also .. its not obvious , kinda between the Ines sort of thing , but Tyler was really really good again tonight and Cal should have nothing but praise for him .
The main thing is Tyler and Cal seem to get along just fine! The fans like me brag on Tyler enough. Cal has to keep him humble.

Tyler is most definitely an alpha though. Lmao. Being a clean cut white shooter has nothing to do with whether you are an alpha or not

Guys give it a break about race . Tyler isnt overly aggressive , Tyler says ZERO to his teammates , Tyler isnt a tough guy . Maybe we can have a discussion about what a Alpha dog is but IMO it isnt a player who says next to nothing ... But I dont see Tyler as cocky like the majority does as well. whatever Go Cats !

Tyler is cocky and super confident as hell though. He doesn't scream in other players faces after plays buy he's still super cocky and trash talks

Tyler runs his mouth at opponents all the time. But he backs it up so I don’t have a problem with it.

There isnt a player on the floor that doesnt talk trash , its a sad part of todays game where even turds run their mouth , not like the good ole days where only players who actually kick *** run their mouths . They all talk and I dont think Tyler says much compared to many of todays players .

Cal always treats his players different individually. He knows what makes them tick. Maybe he thinks Herro would get a big head if he compliments him too much. He knows Herros personality better than we all do.

Thus the big difference between him and Keldon is this. Keldon runs his mouth more than anybody on the team yet has too many games where he doesn't back it up.

Can’t disagree with this. He has been too inconsistent to run his mouth. I thought he was terrible yesterday and not just because of his shooting.

Herro is phenomenal but it depends on whose on to see who needs the most shots. If PJ or KJ or Reid are on and Tyler is having an off night, we have to be willing to adjust. Starting games off with an objective to get one guy more shots than everyone else would be a little strange at this point imo.

Keldon is a rebounding beast, and has hit more clutch shots this year than anybody else on the team (probably the nation tbh). He’s been a little cold lately, but we wouldn’t be here without him.

Oh I agree I'm not necessarily saying he doesn't do anything. Good rebounder a mostly solid defender but an absolute mess on offense too many times. The whole team got punked pretty bad by UT last time we played them but KJ may have gotten it the worst. UK needs a big game from him today and big games going forward.

Keldon needs to work on knowing what he’s doing when he drives into the lane, and learn to pass it out more often lol. But sometimes when the opponents guards are pushing us out on defense, Keldon is the only guy driving into the paint like he should. He ends up looking like an idiot when he has no one to pass it to, but its the other guys who are shying from the contact are what are really hurting us.

I wish we had another year with these guys, I think guys like Keldon could make a huge sophmore jump with small adjustments.

Herro is a cocky guy and I love it. People like that have to be kept in check. I noticed our fans always freak out when Calipari dogs a white player

Nah, they freaked out when he called Terrence Jones a "selfish mf'er" as well. It's not a racial thing. It's a "why is he dogging one of our leading scorers" thing.
