Rattle off the list of great or even good assistants that never played when you’re ready.
I mean, guys like Scott Drew, Buzz Williams, Roy Williams, Bruce Pearl and Mick Cronin were all great assistant coaches before they were head coaches and none of them played college basketball (Williams played 1 year of JV).

I think the idea is that being a great player doesn’t equal being a great coach is more along the lines of what most in the thread feel.

Let’s just steal one of Duke’s assistants and show them a little payback. If you can’t get one of them look at one of Musselman’s assistants seems like they’re getting the job done at Arkansas. How about any of Villanova’s assistants they seem like they recruited very good players and with Wright retiring some of their assistants should be up for grabs.

No it doesn’t, but the smarmy dismissal of Ulis is laughable.

Keep going. The list of good coaches that played dwarfs you.
Hey, you asked to "Rattle off the list of great or even good assistants that never played when you’re ready"
I never made a statement that one list was bigger than the other.I gave you three greats that won NBA championships and you come back with a yeah but..................

In this case, I think it’s close to laughable. We need a young, proven recruiter. If we were replacing the Director of Basketball Ops (Strickland’s original position), then I would be all for it. You don’t lose a really good recruiter in Jai Lucas and replace him with a guy like Tyler Ulis. You just don’t.

Your opinion. Dumb one, but you are entitled to it.

Maybe you need google. Might show you where they started their careers. Daley and Pop were assistant coaches at Duke and Kansas. Clown show is right.

By the way, funny story about your Wojo/Magloire picture. I had a deposition the other day for a case related to my job. The attorney I was working with had a long last name that started with a “W” that I just didn’t pay attention to. In prepping for the deposition, I was telling him about my work history and that I ran a college basketball arena. I then asked if he was a college basketball fan and he’s actually Wojo’s first cousin. I told him about being a UK fan and that is fans often joke about Packer going, “What’s he doing to Wojo?” And he laughed and said they would always bust his balls and say it to him too.

So, at one of the best programs in the country, wanting a proven young recruiter to be hired in a critical position over a former player with zero coaching experience is dumb?
You and Nuke , etc. Just keep hiding in the shadows, not posting any threads and talking swipes at people that post their opinion. Safe and easy. PS, so why did we bring Antigua back if we are in search of recruiting?

How can Ulis be worse than an assistant that messed up the Sharpe recruitment so badly and had zero social skills?

We brought Antigua back because he’s a proven assistant coach who can also recruit to join a young proven recruiter. I’m not sure I understand that question.

As for Sharpe, there are lots of people to blame for that, most notably coach Cal. Duke just came in and took Lucas because of his proven ability to recruit.

This is not about Ulis himself. This is about needing to make sure we hire someone young and proven in recruiting. That’s the role of the guy that left and that’s the role we need replaced.

Muss has had new assistants pretty much every year at Arkansas lol. He seems to do a good job replacing them though.
