Multiple news outlets are reporting that Tyler Summit has resigned as head coach at Lousiiana Tech. He is married and has admitted to having an affair with one of Lousiana Tech's players. Not sure what Pat's current mental state is but she must be heart broken. What an embarrassment for him and her.

I'm really surprised by this - not so much the affair, but the fact that he crossed a line that no coach should ever cross. Having literally grown up among young women, I sure that he learned about that line early on from his mother. It's sad for all concerned, especially Pat. And he's probably going to have a hard time getting another coaching job.
Yes, I would suspect a very hard time. Perhaps on the men's side at some point?
As of yesterday, and not apparently "just rumor", the young lady followed him from Marquette (where he was an Assistant Coach before LaTech) and is pregnant. I don't know if that's true, but I believe this is what was reported in a variety of outlets. I'm more certain of the Marquette connection than the pregnancy, but there is a very long discussion of this on the UConn board.
Most there feel badly about the whole thing, but are not willing to give him any kind of immaturity pass, because he did cross the line he had to have known about. And him being married, as well.

Dumb ***. What a way to screw up your career, and at 24. Well let's see....Cheated on his wife, and only married a short time. Next, cheated with a student athlete under his "care." The student-athlete is also pregnant. What did I forget? Pat would have beat the living snot out of him, gives me the chills.

Didn't Pokey Chatman also have an affair with her student athlete? Yet she was "promoted" to the WNBA!!!! Summit and Chatman are both in the wrong. Hmmmmm... I guess Summitt gets the Liberty job when the job becomes open after Lambeer loses with a wealth of talent. Keep in mind that Mr I. Thomas and Mr. Chatman have something in common.....
Major point #1 - not sure the WNBA is a "promotion", and Chatman didn't go directly from one to the other in any case. Coached overseas.
Major point #2 - Chatman was considered (and is) an excellent coach. Summitt might or might not have become one, but he's just a 2 year coach with a .500 record.
Point #3 - how important depends on your frame of reference, I suppose - but cheating on your wife and (apparently) getting the person pregnant were not features of Chatman's affair.
The issue of the WNBA is that there they are pro athletes. While I surely don't suggest pro coaches ought to get involved with their players either, there is a world of difference between the paid pro and the student athlete.
As far as can remember, the scandal happened when Chatman was at LSU. So her actions were inappropriate at that level--not at the pro level. And I disagree with your thought about the status of a WNBA coach vs a college coach. Coaching in the WNBA is more prestigious than almost any college coaching job, with the exception of UConn and...a few years ago when Tenn was at the top. You are coaching the best players in the country in the WNBA.
Pokey was accused while the LSU HC of having a relationship with a former player which made it bad , but not as bad as Summitt's affair looks now.
Chatman settled for $160,000 after demanding $900,000 for being forced to resign.
Also had a 106–19 record during her time as the LSU WBB HC, that gave her an advantage
looking for and getting another chance as a coach .
Summitt doesn't have that type of record and will be lucky if he gets a chance to return to coaching at the pro or college level, also doubt any HS would want to hire him.
Success forgives a lot in sports, lack of success makes it hard to get 2nd chances.
Well said. But it does not forgive everything. Ray Rice is an exception to that forgiveness with prior success.
Madhat's response is the point I was trying (poorly) to make, that Chatman was successful. The reference to the pros is that, as paid and older athletes, one assumes that it is less likely for a coach to truly be in a position to take advantage of his / her athletes.
On the importance of being a WNBA coach we will have to disagree. While I get the presumed pleasure of coaching top players, many coaches (I believe) enjoy the teaching experience of college coaching. They also enjoy the increased job security at the college level, and the likely larger paycheck as well. Dang hard to find out what the "W" coaches make, but it looks like anything over $200K would be a lot, especially since the entire salary cap for players on a team is under a million, I think.
