Not sure what he was thinking since the wife was hotter than the player and no penalties that I know of for sleeping with your own wife. Of course like with Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley - no matter how hot she is someone somewhere got tired of tapping that and went on to something else.

no doubt...

again, not condoning...

I think we have to understand the culture in which he grew up...this type of encounter is probably not as taboo to him as it is to us because he grew up in women's sports...
I have to say, I totally disagree with this take. Coach knocking up a player is off the charts bad and if it wasn't "taboo" to him he's got some issues, to say the least. I don't think Pitino could top it.

totally understand...

but I think perspective is important in this...

he's 25 years old...so he's college age...about the same age as a lot of grad students...so if we take the title of coach out of the picture...then it's really a 25 year grad student aged young man shacking up...not extremely out of the ordinary...

"he's the coach..."...indeed...but i'd say there are law, accounting, engineering firms out there where senior employees are shacking up with younger lower employees and interns...

as for his "issues"...i'd say you could be right, he probably has a few...and it goes back to the culture..l'm not a psychology expert but I would venture to guess that growing up in women's locker rooms his first crushes and fantasies were with players...also, though this is pure speculation, i would guess that he may have seen or at least known about relationships between players and coaches...as i said in previous post, I believe that this is more common than folks realize...

also, anyone who has been around women's athletics knows that there is a larger proportion of homosexuality in that field than most other fields...so the straight girl on the team sees a young baby faced male coach with a southern draw, famous last name...might be hard to resist...

Gee, who could've imagined things could go awry from offering your head coaching job to a 23-year-old kid with virtually no experience solely because of his last name?

That's what amuses me. From the very beginning, this was an insanely stupid hire of a ridiculously unqualified person. And if the kid had any other last last name, people would've screamed that fact from the rooftops. But, in this case, NOBODY was brave enough to say it because there was so much sympathy and goodwill toward Pat Summitt at the time than nobody wanted to be perceived as the "bad guy" going negative about a Summitt family story.

But, NOW, that bad things have resulted? What a SHOCK! Yeah, what a shock that handing the keys to your entire W basketball program to a 23 year old heterosexual male still harboring a college kid's mentality and barely any experience went wrong! Who could've ever imagined a bad result from that hire?

Yeah, I wish I could be given a gig based on my last name like him and Ricky jr. I'm sure the next thing will be, it was entrapment. Who wouldn't expect a 25yr old married and miserable head coach not want to add to his own personal roster? I think the red flags would of went up when this blonde follows him from Marquette to tenn. how would his wife not suspect anything?

I was hoping for a really smartass answer lol. I needed a laugh rafters never disappoints

I'll be here all week.

Seriously though, it's all about the ***. We come out of it when we are born and spend our entire lives trying to get back into it. I can see why a select few females would feel the same. (Bull dykes excluded)

As much as I enjoy Pitino-bashing, my honest instincts force me to say this kid's hire was NOTHING like Ricky Jr.

Hey, at least Ricky Jr. was first required to learn the craft as a longtime assistant at many different programs (Northeastern, Charleston, Duquesne, Louisville, Florida), and he was then required to first prove himself as an HC running a lower tier mid-major program (FIU). It was only then, AFTER he'd passed those tests, and well into his 30s, that he was finally given a top tier opportunity at Minnesota.

Whereas this Summitt kid was offered the HEAD coaching position at one of the sports traditionally greatest and most successful programs when he was only 23 YEARS OLD with nearly no experience.

It was insanely stupid hire from the very beginning. But, funny thing is nobody would dare say it back then because nobody wanted to be on record saying anything negative about the Summitt family. But ...ohh, we'll act shocked now..

I love how you put an emphasis on head lol. Something tells me that was part of summitts requirements before taking the gig lol. Too bad for him his wife was better looking. I'm guessing she didn't put out the effort like his team did.

Well at least Richard Pitino never impregnated one of his players that we know of... so he's got that going for him.

Pitino could top it and knock it up if it was on the table in an italian restaurant.

I harken back to the olden days and think of Lea Wise of the UK Lady Kats. Looked like Charlie's Angel era Farrah Fawcett!

No, not condoning only justifying. There are some lines you just don't cross. Coaches don't have a sexual relationship with players. Bosses don't have affairs with people they have supervisory power over. I have no idea if you're married or not. My vows included "forsaking all others." Mr. Summit is about to reap the whirlwind of his choices. As he should.

It was such an idiotic idea to give a 23-year-old kid a head coaching job. That AD should lose their job for that alone.
