I had assumed that’s what it was. And I’m sorry, but I highly doubt it was “completely out of character” for him.

I’m sure he was a heckuva nice guy. He was obviously well liked. But to be that young with that much money in your pocket and the feeling of invincibility can be pretty dangerous.

I guarantee you he didn't know how potent the drugs were. They said fentanyl was one of them. It doesn't take much of that by itself to kill you let alone mixed with alcohol.

What a tragedy. I'm not advocating at all for using drugs, but if you do, for God sakes know EXACTLY what you're taking and you don't know if you're getting it from random people.

I doubt it’s a scenario where he was testing his limits or something.

Just made a mistake and paid the ultimate price.

As a person of recovery, I’ve seen first hand how dangerous that stuff is and have lost friends to addiction.

He could have been depressed and was self-medicating for all we know. Some people’s brains are much more susceptible to chemical addiction and I feel like it’s hard for people to understand exactly what’s going on in these situations.

as someone in my own recovery journey and who works part time in the treatment and recovery world, I double agree. Well said

Specially, asphyxiation from his own vomit due to drug induced incapacitation. I’m not sure why it took this long, but it makes it no less tragic. RIP

I never said he was testing his limits. I just think when you're a 24 year old professional athlete in peak physical condition with a lot of money in your pocket, you really don't think about the consequences of your actions.

That stuff will get you, especially fentanyl. I was prescribed the patches for several years. My tolerance builds up a lot faster than most and it didn't take long until I was abusing them. Started innocently as that was the only way to help the pain but that stuff will grab you and not let go. If you had just the right amount there was no better feeling in the world, but take 2% to much and your arse is in trouble. Abusing meds isn't my MO and pot is the only non Rx product I've ever touched.

It was deer season and I was gonna hunt until lunch then go to my brothers house to cookout and watch State/Bama. Well I never showed. My dad knew the area I was hunting and came looking for me. Luckily he found me asleep in my blind. A tad more and I might not have woke up. Definitely not advocating abusing anything, esp while carrying a rifle.

Well my family never knew what the issue was. But that scared me enough that I weined myself off it over the course of a week or two. After that I stopped all pain meds that month and that was 4-5 years ago. Just sharing this as this can happen to anyone no matter who you are. Thankfully I don't have that addiction gene or who knows what shape I'd be in.

First time I've ever shared that. Now my only vice is sniffing glue. Especially Saturday's in the fall,

I understand. And I was saying being poor or rich, old or young, successful or unsuccessful...makes no difference. Drugs do not care who you are and as PGB said, it’s a fine line dealing with fentanyl.

As others have said, this most likely was part of addiction. Little to nothing to do with character. I’m another addict. Our brains don’t have an off switch when it comes to any substance. We take it until it’s gone or we are. We are the first to pass out at every party. We don’t know how much we drank/took. We don’t know what a good buzz is because we can never get to it. We are just fine using alone.

Ultimately, we surrender and find help, or we end up like Tyler.

It’s a disease.

Fentanyl will probably end up killing millions of people before it’s all said and done. It’s a major problem.

Yep. China is having their way with us right now with all sorts of illegal drugs and synthetic drugs being manufactured and shipped here.

I too recently got off those awful things and am in full recovery mode, thanks to the good Lord above. Was ruining everything.... financially, family etc. I finally found enough gumption to go see a recovery dr/counselor and he has been my life saver (besides the only saver). And there are some very true statements in this thread. This disease does not discriminate. It doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor, old or young, race.... anything. And some people’s brains are very much more susceptible to getting hooked on the chemicals. This thread has kinda made me happy to read as far as the recovery parts. Skaggs and all the other folks dying from this epidemic (of our own doing in the USA) makes me sick. If any dawgs ever wanna talk about it, you’re welcome to pm me.
