I think that anyone who would think otherwise has a loose screw. This kid has what it takes to be incredible. As long as Mullen is around to develop him, he will be a baller.

Without Russell, or what he could potentially become, we'd get a lot less looks and commits from some of these young Wide Receivers.

Great? Probably not.
Done developing? I sure hope not.
Adequate starter in the SEC? Sure. Why not. Not great, but good enough to win some games.

He won't play much next year unless Relf needs a spell or gets hurt. Even then we will see a little Farve in the mix too to get experience in clean up time.
OR he improves by leaps and bounds. Which is probably what Mullen wants. hen Relf can be the change of pace and a damn good one too who has the ability to throw the ball. Now THAT would be a fun offense to watch.
Also, Favre will be the message board hero at ALL TIMES next season (what we are seeing now will pale in comparison).

we might see him more this season ... I don't think we will get very far from here on out running the ball 90 % of the time .... it feels like we are becoming one dimensional on offense

But not before Junior year. Hopefully he will be special then and memorable his senior year.

year, he would be up for the heisman by now. TR is a RFR who I personally hoped would have gotten some more touches by now. The LSU drive was a thing of beauty but the masses only remember the three picks that game, two were under extreme pressure, and now some on here have gone ahead and gvien him credit for Relf's two making his total 5 for that game. Would have like to see him get a few series to change up the pace and also just to keep the Brassell's, MOrrow's and Singleton's in the hunt, because it is obvious Mullen doenst think 14 can make even the simplest throws and those recruits are watching

Don't know how close that is to great...but I think he could still be one of the best we have ever seen at State.

The only thing he is lacking right now is the decision making part of the game - looking off safeties, holding the ball a second too long, etc. He is a smart player, I think he will pick it up. I have seen him make enough outstanding throws (including a couple of NFL caliber throws) this year to think he could be capable of really, really good things at some point in his career. I also picked his junior year. I think we will see more of him next year, especially with the added development of our WRs, with Relf still getting the majority of the PT.

How he meshes with our offense, I don't know, but if he has a RB that can get yards without the option/zone read every play, he could be really effective. I think that is Florida's problem re: Brantley. They don't have a RB that can do it by himself.

I'm guessing he will just be an serviceable but average SEC qb (unlesshe can't play next year b/cour line can't pass block). Even if he's just average, hecould still becompetitive for betsMSU qb ever.

To put it in perspective, it doesn't bother me that Mullen didn't think going to TR was a good option to try to spark our offense on Saturday; when you can win with ball control, you don't necessarily want to throw a redshirt freshman qb out there and risk a turnover. But if we're playing a similar game next year where the offense is struggling, andTR hasn't progressed to the point where it's a no brainer to tryhim for a series or two to see if he can get something going,I will start worrying about his development.

I would not consider 5 fieldgoals as ball control

Here's my question: Can we really expect to win more than 8 games w/ Relf at QB? In order for us to win SEC games consistently we'll have to be able to both run and throw the ball well. I think that's why we tried throwing so much vs. Auburn and LSU. Mullen knows this.

If Russell doesn't develop, then we can't expect to compete for an SEC West Championship in the next 2 or 3 years. Relf has proved these last 5 games that he's good for about 1 out of every 3 passes. The other 2 are ugly. Our WRs are not ready to catch 25 passes a game yet either. We are developing the kind of big receivers we need to make Tyler Russell successful: Chris Smith, Michael Carr, Robert Johnson, Malcolm Johnson, etc. Not knocking Bumphis, Heavens, and Clark but they are just too small to go up against SEC DBs every single play. And signing guys like Nick Brassell will also be helpful.

Whether he does or not because of or in spite of Relf, he needs to be ready to be an adequate starting QB next year.

The rubber meets the road next year.
