Rex was a far better athlete and shooter at this age. Rex was in the NBA about 100 years. Rex took over and dominant Nate’s every game. Rex was a far better dunker. Other than that. I guess.
No way in hell Rex was a better shooter... Better athlete yes!!

People change, he brought much joy and love to the Bluegrass. He was placed on a pedestal most only dream of, and made tons of mistakes. Cal and co let him around the players, that's enough for me. We forget that these players are people, yeah he says stupid things on twatter, but go thru all our posts and I'm sure that we have posted ridiculous things that were unfit as uk fans. Like it or not, Rex is a part of BBN, unlike 99.9% posters here, he actually put his body on the line, he sweated and bled for UK. His name will forever be in the annul of Wildcat lore, you and me won't
Give him a break. Addiction is a disease. prescription meds were handed out unporportionally more in Appalachia than anywhere else in the country. Im pretty sure everyone on here knows or has been directly touched by the epidemic of addiction. Kudos to Rex for humbling himself and publicly discussing his life. Better him than a Holier than thou, overweight, money taking Mills who still is an apologist for his head coaches...tells others how wrong we live, but for 20.00 on the collection will start your salvation...
Rant over.
Rex yes
Mills no....
How I feel about Rex shouldn’t affect you at all, you are free to hold him in whatever regard you choose and I’m going to let you feel that way. So I’m not going to go bleeding heart on him, it’s just his stature as a UK player anyway. I did not say bury him under a prison but I have no respect for him and do not think players should be compared to someone like Rex. I don’t take player skill, race or birth location into account when they go astray, everybody is the same to me. Rex is still a jerk in life, if he weren’t then maybe I’d feel different.

As far as I know he's a recovered addict. I guess being a former liar drug addict and thief I'm gonna burn in hell. People screw up he seems like a decent dude now.
You probably will but I don’t make those calls, maybe you wont

Being a liar and a thief isn't of the same category as an addict even though the paths intersect at times.

I am an addict (mostly recovering) and I've never stolen anything. People who abuse drugs don't necessarily steal and lie compulsively. Those are character flaws that will be with you whether or not you abuse drugs or not. They aren't the result of drug abuse unless you're hooked out of your mind.

Liars and thieves cannot be rehabilitated, much like a chomo. If you lie for the sake of lying and have the urge to steal, you don't need a drug to make it happen.
People under the influence do horrible things. Glad you are in recovery, being in recovery you should know never to compare yourself to others. Each has their own story. Don't judge others as well, your addiction isn't any better than anyone else. You are either an addict or not. No shades of grey. Just because your addiction didn't cause you to lie, cheat, or steal, doesn't make you a better person. When a chemical causes you to act irrationally and you will continue to use despite the horrific , disastrous consequences, you are just like the thief, the prostitute, the negligent parent, the skid row homeless person. The most important thing is to recognize and stop. Learn better coping mechanisms. Rex has paid his dues. At least he is being true to himself. I don't agree with half the sh"t he says, but I don't judge him for it. No offense, but you would be the first honest self professed addict. Lies are a part of it, especially lying to oneself.

Doesnt cone across that way. More power to you. I could care less how you feel about him. Point is people change. Forgiveness is part of bwing a moral human being. Rex was a great player for the cats. He owned up to his faults and lIke I said, Cal is cool with him around our players and we'll that is all 5hat matters. Be happy and less judgy

You come off as preachy and unwilling to accept any opinion other than Rex was a great player so let’s forget everything he’s done. Remember you quoted me stating how I was wrong to fell the way I did, so you most certainly do care. If how Cal feels about him is all that matters then you can stop telling me how to feel, there’s contradictions in your post left and right.

I see Herro as a mix of Devin Booker and Brad Beal!!

I can see a lot of their style in his game. As much as I hate the guy he plays a lot like Grayson Allen. Allen is a great athlete just a horrible crybaby tripping ***** who played for the only program who would tolerate him.

Problem is he continued to lie and be a douche well after he got sober/ got caught being high AF stealing a bunch of iPhones.

As a recovering addict I guarantee his recovery is as not recovered still then. It takes a long time to get past being the worst of addiction. It’s for life. I understand the hate and frustration though.

I really enjoy your posts and think you’re one of the better posters on here but ...
What is weird? What is gross? Tyler getting love ? Or people jokingly saying he will be popular with the females ? John Wall did too. So did Bledsoe and MKG

Doesn’t really seem weird or gross to me...?

Would you say the same thing if this discussion replaced Herro with KJ?

There’s nothing really wrong with fans loving/ hyping a player like Herro

I’d guess even the fringe guys and some walk Ons get some pretty good trim while they are here. It’s a perk of being in great shape and an athlete, and to play for the biggest program in our state.

I used to have a shirt that said, "I live in Louisville, but my heart is in Rexington."

If I still had it now I wouldn't piss on it if it were on fire, so count me out as someone who would EVER compare a good kid like Herro to Chapman.
It is strange to me that you and so many others on here are ok with bashing a former homegrown wildcat like Chapman because he has made a few mistakes in life. I just don't get it, it is the same ones who bash Travis Ford all the time. However, you guys will take up for Cal's players like someone is killing them. Strange stuff in my book.

I certainly don't blame Calipari for wanting folks to pump the brakes on Herro. He doesn't need that kind of pressure. Having said this, you can't help but see some similarities. He probably doesn't have the vertical that Chapman had, but he's taller and longer. I watched Chapman play, so I agree entirely with Cal that he was special, a player similar to an Anthony Davis or a Demarcus Cousins for his position, a rare talent.

We've only seen him in 4 exhibition games, and one of those team shut him down a bit. We'll see. I'll just leave it at this: I like what I've seen so far. He could be a special player, too. He's not Rex but I'm glad he's a Cat.

First off, the "in-race comparison" phenomenon is incredibly silly and results in a bunch of ridiculous takes, particularly with elite white guys, because there are comparatively few in the US.

But if you're going where I think you're going with this, well..

I don't get it.

I'd assume you don't take issue with this particular phenomenon (special attention from demographics who wouldn't otherwise be quite so interested based on racial similarities in an under-represented event) when it's directed towards, say Tiger or Pacquiao or Jeremy Lin? Gross? Really?

You're a great poster, Gonzo, but that sounds like one of those socially damaging purple-hair double standards.

You can certainly retain the moral high ground if you're chastising people for treating others badly based on immutable characteristics. I think the second you chastise people based on whom they feel a special bond with, you've gone from the defender to the aggressor (for example, telling people that they're not allowed to have categorical dating preferences).

If I got you wrong, then I apologize. But I'm not sure what else you'd be talking about.

I'm talking about those who get paid to cover our team or college basketball in general who immediately fall into that lazy idiocy.

Greenberg and Dakich named guys like Jeff freaking Brassow as "most beloved Kentucky players of all time," in a discussion about how Herro could join that club (despite not even being the best freshman this year), before anyone even mentioned Mashburn as a throwaway name.

It's just embarrassing for them. Call it what it is and say a bunch of white people are going to love this guy because he's the best white player in a long time, but at least have an intellectually honest discussion when naming our most beloved players instead of just naming a bunch of white guys.

Your analogy doesn't fit, by the way. If like 95% of Knicks fans were Asian and someone said Jeremy Lin could be the most beloved Knick of all time after two preseason games, I would hope everyone would rightfully make fun of that for what it is.

Wow.

Have you ever talked to Travis Ford? Christ Mary. Biggest ******* I've ever met.

If Rex Chapman had been from Florida and ran his mouth reckless about UK being racist, sport his I-Rex Z around Lexington without a care in the world, talk bad about UK fans, spread fake rumors about Calipari going to the Lakers, rob an Apple store, went to rehab for pain pill addiction, and bitches about politics every day...

Would you STILL be a fan? Geography isn't that important to me.

A lot of post here know Rex as a retired NBA player and the bad things he did. They more than likely never watched Rex play a game other than on you tube.
I watched Rex play through his high school, college and pro years, Tyler is as close to Rex in comparison as any player I have seen in my lifetime. Will his career be as good and tenured as Rex ? Only time will tell, I like his chances as he is "special".
I about threw up the other day when Matt at KSR said his poll only showed his popularity because he was white in Kentucky. I have a bit of news for you liberal Matt, color does not matter at all. His play in the Bahama's was the reason for the excitement in Kentucky.

Sounds like @GonzoCat90 is being somewhat of a hater. I'm of the same mindset you are. I'm just like wut?! I know what I would be doing if I were in Tyler's shoes, that's for sure. Lots and lots of it at that. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

a few?...a few that directly pertain to UK...the other stuff could be possibly be forgiven.

He is not a "homegrown wildcat". A homegrown Wildcat would not
LIE to fans and media...Even before registering for first class at UK he proclaimed to "friends" he was only staying two years
While at UK was a GREAT player; and huge drama queen...
Try to paint UK and fans as racist after leaving (Al Baker's sister situation; BTW, Al never backed Rex's allegations)
LIE about being stalked, by a UK fan
"DONE DEAL" to Lakers, nuff said...
recently claim UK fans are still biased against Non-Caucasians...
(these are just five minutes of quick memory, I'm sure others could enlighten us with more)

Let's see now. I guess the politically correct thing to do now is to compare a white player to a black player. O.K. then, Tyler Herros' game reminds me of Shagari Alleyne. I know that a foolish comparison, but got to be politically correct.

Bottom line though he is still a wildcat through and through; why does him robbing an apple store change that for you? How does that affect you? Also, isn't it a good thing that he went to rehab for a pill addiction? So, do you hate all people who have had to go seek help for addictions?

Not a bad player to copy cat your SWAG and nickname from. Boy wonder indeed. Rex's game was so far ahead of his time it's not even funny. 40% 3 point shooter with over 100 made in two seasons...... In the 1980's.....

Whoa. Chapman ISN'T a Wildcat "through and through" in my book since he's been an *** to UK fans and the program.

Since I used to be an addict back in the day, then no I am not against anyone seeking help for an addiction. What a silly thing to say.

How many accounts does Rex have? He is pathetic enough to do that, an embarrassment that should have went to Louisville.
