not at all .... I completely understand why he passed. The issue isn’t passing on him ... talent eval misses happen all the time

the issue is when he opened his mouth about “do you think he is better than what we’ve got” quote- no reason to run your mouth and make yourself and the program look like idiots.

I’ve said this multiple times - never have been critical about not getting him - just the stupid media comments
That’s my point... sorry I wasn’t clear. You’ve said it many times. MANY times.

But not yet in this thread I guess... so we get to hear it again.

yes - And when someone brings up that we have to offer every Tom, dick and Harry from Nebraska because they might be the next Burrow I will bring it up again - it’s the yapping to the media that was the problem.

I suspect i will also bring it up during the playoff when Frosts comments get national attention again - so maybe stay clear if the subject matter makes you too uncomfortable.

You act as though no one knows this. How can we not know with you posting it in half the threads that are created?

don’t read it friend ... Hit the ignore

man you get worked up ... while not the original intent - part of the fun has become starting the stop watch to see how many milliseconds elapsed before you lose your ****.

Haven’t lost it at all. Just an observation. Couldn’t ignore my closest friends on here.

I'm not an expert on these kinds of things but I am pretty skeptical of the idea of promising someone a scholarship after 18 months. If the kid is worth a scholarship, give it to him now. If he wants to walk on, let him earn a scholarship. We are now in a position where we could possibly find ourselves with a player that hasn't earned a scholly but we promised it, so either we don't honor a promise and damage recruiting connections in the future or we do honor it and have dead weight on the roster.

Hopefully there are at least conditions that make this promise valid. Maybe the kid was giving a rendition of an agreement that sounded more solid than it is.
It's pretty simple. You're limited by your number of scholarships available. He needs a year in the weight room at least and you need WRs who can play yesterday. You're pretty sure he will develop in to a guy who can play at the P5 level and you want him AND he says he'll start as a walk on. At some point you KNOW that you'll lose somebody to a transfer by that time opening up a scholarship. It's a good deal for us AND a good deal for him IMO if that's his dream. Otherwise there's probably no way you can afford to take a project like him right now.

What promises went to the other 20 walk-ons?
IF they became a starter they would get a scholarship when one opened up in most cases. That's a different deal than a kid you think has P5 talent worthy of a scholarship but you don't have room for him. This kid is no different than a greyshirt or blueshirt. You're making a promise.

I’m sure there’s details we aren’t aware of. Point is he’s passing up other D1 scholarship opportunities so the coaching staff is meeting him halfway. I’m also sure he will be processed if not competitive roster wise. I think I saw the walk-on program was designed with numbers in each class that progressively reduce so it has a competitive element cooked into it.
No need to process him. Just keep him as a walk-on and if he gets pissed and leaves, so be it. If he takes it as a learning opportunity and gets significant playing time, he can earn a scholarship as an upperclassmen.
