Ty Hahn and Isaac Gifford

I don't know much about these two, but looks like both have gotten some D1 offers and both play positions of need. Has anyone seen either play? Do you think they will get late offers?

That is your base in recruiting cause we aren't getting enough good walk ons to replace those guys. Then half of the out of state kids from the classes transfer. Then we are left with holes everywhere.

I have watched Gifford play a couple of times. Good speed, nose for the football, and a hard hitter. Safety size right now on defense. Obvious comparisons to his brother, but also looked good on punt returns - has some moves with the ball in his hand.

We aren't getting good enough walk-ons, because these type of guys used to be the walk-ons for Tom. They are now getting full ride scholarship offers. The walk-on program is a nice soundbite, but its not the same game as when Tom would give high school coaches an index card and have them write down who the best players they played against were. All these kids have a Hudl profile and are getting recruited. Its a lot tougher game to find a walk-on thats going to contribute. Does it still happen, sure...but its not what it once was.

I've heard the comparison to JoJo. A little undersized, but pretty athletic and good instincts. Would you agree with that? Do you think he is a B1G player/should we offer?

Luke was a damn good athlete and I imagine his brother is as well. I don't see the need to wait. Let's get him an offer and get him committed, I think he'd be a great addition to the class.

We're getting "enough" walk ons but most likely the talent in some cases of the walk ons we're getting isn't on par with what Tom got IMO. Personally I'm not in favor of having as many walk ons on the roster as Frost wants. I think it's pretty damned hard to run that large of a practice and give a walk on a fair shot. JMHO.

I wouldn't be qualified to judge his potential as a B1G player, but he has a motor, and at times looked superior among class A talent. Past history tells us that passing on a sibling/legacy player has worked against us more often than not...personally I would offer, but that is an opinion and nothing else

I get where you are coming from but there is no way to verify such a claim. How many legacy/siblings have we never heard of, that were passed on? There could be literally hundreds. We really only know about the ones that come back to bite us like Burrow. Had we never offered the younger Banderas a walk on spot, most wouldn’t even know there was a younger Banderas, some still probably don’t know or don’t remember him.

I think it sucks when we miss on those legacies or sibling players, but you can’t recruit and offer scholarships based on the fact that the legacy/ sibling might do well at another school.

I haven’t seen the Gifford kid play so I have no idea if he is “worthy” of a scholarship or not.

while there are multiple examples of misses - I maintain the best evaluation of a prospect to the outsider is their offer list

if a recruit has few if any power 5 offers and the quality of the teams offering is lacking it isn't because he has hasn't been evaluated

I wasn’t questioning your formal evaluation skills. I was questioning this statement

I don’t know that you can make that statement with any sort of validity. Like I said, we don’t know how many legacy/ siblings have actually been passed over and how many have come back to “work against us”.

I just don’t think you offer a kid because there is a chance he will come back to hurt you.
