Here is a link to Dr. Ding's twitter page. Dr. Ding was among the first (if not THE first) American medical figure to raise alarms about the risk of the virus to the USA back in mid to late January. Many at that time claimed he was alarmist and reckless. He turned out to be right. You may want to follow his twitter feed to get his take on developments. Nearly every step of the way he has been right, but ignored. It is baffling.

In any event, the tweet that he re-tweeted regarding the death of two young residents is now deleted. I have no idea why, but I have concern that it is because of pressure from hospital administrators. There are stories coming out around the country of physicians being fired for disclosing lack of proper PPE or insisting on wearing their own PPE when their employer refuses or is unable to provide proper PPE, etc.
Similarly, we are told that masks are not necessary and should not wear them and then a few weeks later we are told wearing them is important. I get the feeling we (and health care workers) are being told what is expedient rather than the truth. It is an appalling situation and is shocking to me that this is the USA. When this is over, there needs to be a Truth and Reconciliation Commission and all chief executives of hospitals, government entities (the President, all applicable cabinet secretaries, heads of applicable federal agencies, and governors of both parties), and public health agencies need to be brought before the public to explain their actions and inactions from December 29th until the pandemic was controlled. This (and anything similar to it) must never happen again.

Healthcare workers are being muzzled and threatened with firing if they speak out about conditions inside. My guess is that may be why he deleted that post.

Healthcare workers being threatened with firing for speaking out

It is hard to believe this is happening in America. The country I grew up in and have lived in for over half a century is now very different. We have a lot of things to fix.

I’ve always been supportive of Trump because the economy was doing well under him. He acts like an idiot but that never bothered me. Please explain how you can still support him after the way he handled this? I honestly just want to know. You know that he said this was going to magically disappear by April.

I support every potus that enters office regardless if I like him or not. I find that wailing on about orange man bad does nothing but further the divide in the country and solves nothing. Instead of yelling about how trump is the worst blah blah blah, make some phone calls to your respective representatives about what you'd like to see done now or in the future. If that isn't enough, run for public office yourself and create solutions/planning to avoid the things you found wrong during this era.

The CDC has to do a revamp of their protocol on testing after this fiasco. Satellite testing just won't work in these situations. I think trump and the cdc both bungled the original chance to start testing, but it sure as **** would have been nice if the WHO wasn't telling us on Jan 31 that covid wasn't transmittable P2P. To me, the PPE and testing are the most frustrating aspects of this whole ordeal and Trump deserves a big load of that burden. I just find it intellectually dishonest to not treat this as a multifaceted situation in which multiple entities (along with the potus) made mistakes. I do feel like they have rebounded fairly well and adjusted accordingly for the most part.

Has Trump knocked this response out of the park? Hell no. Has he made some missteps along the way? Absolutely. Are those missteps as bad as people are making them out to be? That appears to be a subjective response that will leave quite a few of us in disagreement.

I have heard that numerous places. It is outrageous! The hospital administrators and government officials responsible for the lack of PPE should be forced to accompany you and similar professionals for an entire shift each a couple of times a week until this is fixed. I am surprised there is not a strike, but I guess the professionals do not want to leave the patients even more exposed, even when it is at the risk to them personally and their families. I have a deep, deep respect for that but that choice should never be forced on the health care professionals. We are abusing their trust and dedication. We would never do that to our military, and i suspect this is at least as dangerous to our health care workers as the recent wars were to our military.

Great post. Probably too long and too intellectual for many here. This is a way more complex issue than what Bush II faced after 9/11. Any administration would be making mistakes left and right with an unprecedented event like this. The lessons learned from this on all levels, Federal, State, Local will be significant.

These tweets about the deaths of these brave doctors and nurses are so sad. Putting a face to these people makes the reality really kick in. My heart goes out to all their friends and families!

Mistakes are to be expected. It is a brand new virus. We still do not know a lot about it. No one expects perfection.

I do not agree that it was anywhere near as complicated as dealing with 911 and the continuing threat of Islamic extremists. That threat will likely run a century or more off and on. This is a virus. We know how to deal with infectious diseases. To date multiple countries have dealt with it with minimal cost and damage. We presumably will have a vaccine in a couple of years.

But ignoring the virus and claiming it was nothing and essentially doing no testing for 6 weeks is where history will judge President Trump and a lot of governors and public health officials very harshly IMO. Governor Cuomo and NYC Mayor de Blasio, for example, do not get a pass from me. They have more capability on such issues than all but a handful of countries in the world. What did they do to address and plan for it. I suspect the capability withing their borders is comparable to South Korea and more than Taiwan and Iceland. What did they do to avoid and address what was a clear and present danger of epic proportions? We live in a society of results and performance. We have a complete and utter failure of leadership and judgment of epic and unbelievable magnitude at every level IMO.

This is way more complicated than 9/11. Increasing physical security measures to counteract muslim terrorists, who would never be able to replicate the 9/11 attacks again, is way easier than trying to slow/stop the spread of a virus that spreads asymptomatically can kill millions in the worst case and any measures to combat it will crush the economy and effect every person in the US with 100% certainty.

Failures at every level? Sure. Down to the individual consumer who was perfectly happy to support China and let american industry die in the quest for lower prices. So EVERYBODY owns a piece of this.

Doing things right? This Admin has done a bunch right to go along with the bad, however that is not hot news right now, and that won't come out until later, so i choose not to jump to conclusions and I'd prefer to look at things in totality. Kinda the same way that I think giving Nobel Peace prizes based on "Hope" is kinda crazy.

My guess is that be it Trump or Obama, or Bush or Clinton or whomever... each and every administration would have dorked up some part of this unprecedented situation.... and it's pretty easy for those on the sidelines to sit back with 20-20 hindsight and second guess things.

Nah...if you come on here and tell me Dabo robbed a bank...I want proof. Call me skeptical that way.
JFC. You compare the likelihood of 2 residents dying during the corona virus to Dabo robbing a bank?.

The discussion over national healthcare will shift dramatically on the other side of this.

Healthcare will not be the only thing reexamined. There is a pretty good chance this thing will go on through the summer and into fall. The longer this thing hangs around, the more systems will be impacted. There is gonna be a banking reckoning and a manufacturing reckoning, to say the least. If the taxpayers continue to have to bail out big businesses such as oil, airlines etc more accountability will soon follow. I don't consider myself an alarmist, a conspiracist, deep stater. However for too long government has kicked their responsibilities down the road to appease big business. Meanwhile, infrastructure, roads, banking, emergency response, education and healthcare have suffered. Maybe, this will be the impetus to make changes. If not then I am not sure anything will.

I’m not a health care worker. Mine was always a joke. But you know that. Have some respect for a supposedl Doctor on TI who posts a link about 2 deaths that he has no proof of?

You joked for years about being a neurosurgeon? Well then how come when I first called you out on it you became indignant and insisted you were a neurosurgeon, and called me a stalker for accusing you of lying? That seems like a disproportionate reaction from someone who was just joking. Don't you agree?

You’re a liar. And a dumbass. I have never called myself a neurosurgeon nor became indignant. I have always used the term “brain surgeon “ to give away the joke. Everyone on the board knew it was a joke except 2 or 3 idiots. You being one of them. Don’t you have a mattress to sell, JG?

no Amy - you definitely pretended to be a neurosurgeon. Quit with the semantics. Even @jmh9713 thought you worked in health care. I guess you’re questioning his intelligence too

It was always a joke. 95% of the board knew it. I’m not arguing with you about it. Let’s see... what did you tell me? Don’t waste my time.

Never once used the proper term neurosurgeon in order to give the joke away.

Look, you can lie to us and insult our intelligence all day if you want. Nobody here believes you were joking. If nobody had called you on it you would still be lying about it. Because you're a liar, and a bigot, and just generally a rotten human being that nobody likes. And this situation is all of your own creation, but you'd rather continue being the poor, innocent victim that everyone stalks and attacks for no reason. And I would be willing to bet you operate the same way in real life too.

Take a long hard look in the mirror, Amy. The person staring back at you is responsible for 100% of the **** to receive on this board. And I'm being sincere, you could make the choice to stop being the instigator/victim, but you won't because you so desperately crave the attention you don't care if it's negative or positive. Just like my 4 year old niece.

Two medical residents in NYC have in the last 24 hours from COVID-19. Both were in their 20s and became infected while taking care of patients with COVID. Very sad situation.
Keep this in mind when people continue to minimize this whole thing.

That's awful. Prayers for their families.

Do you think there could be any sort of buildup effect in the body because of how much exposure they had? Getting exposed day after day after day?

May 2017!!!! Couple of online classes and I’m performing “brain surgery “. Complete with smiley emoji after ridiculous sentence! Oh yes! That’s the way you become a neurosurgeon... 2 online classes! I could post several statements over the years just like this. Apparently some of you aren’t very bright. I don’t owe any of you a damn thing, I’m just proving that I’m right and that it was always a joke. I can’t help it that some of you are too dense to detect a joke or sarcasm. When do I get my apologies?
