Luke Gifford and Tommy Armstrong. Both of them for different reasons are going to be key. Obviously they need lots of help around them but how they both perform is going to determine a bunch. Gifford playing his first game as a freshman at a new position against a QB that can put immense pressure on linebackers. HUGE challenge. TA? What ya got today big fella? Make your papa's proud! GBR.

Great call on Gifford. IMO the soptlight on Armstrong is a bit over luminated.

I'll be interested in seeing how much 4-3 and how much nickel we play. BYU is likely to spread the field a lot, especially with their best blocking TE out. But without Rose available our nickel options are a little tougher.

If we do play a lot of nickel then Gifford might not be as key.

I can only imagine how Gifford feels right now. Great story that hopefully has a good outcome today. Tremendous challenge and I hope he responds well. It will especially by sweet given some of the criticism our former staff got for his scholarship offer if he performs well. Of course, its the current staff that is coaching him and put him at linebacker but for the kid, this is a great opportunity and I know the whole state is pulling for him. IF he does well, this makes the whole linebacker thing seem a bunch easier for the rest of the season.

I'm not as concerned about J Rose's absence as MRI's. Maybe JRose made a jump this fall, but his performance was underwhelming to me last year. I think we've got the depth at DB without JRose to play whatever we want to. Linebacker is a little sketchier. It will be fun to watch.

I really want to see #Gifford succeed. Gonna be tough for him today

So far, Rose has been mostly hype. He's as physically skilled as anybody we've had on the roster at CB the last two years except maybe, maybe Kalu but on the field he's been pretty average.

But BYU can field a 3WR formation at 6'6", 6'5", 6'5" and they love to lob jump balls to those guys. Rose at 6'1" 195# can better handle those huge receivers than Mosley at 5'10" 170#. Plus we may need DB depth today with the heat and humidity and without Rose or Jones we're a little thin at CB. Hope Boaz Joseph is ready to play.
