With this being the nightbefore the “Battle for the Golden Egg” or “Egg Bowl” I thought I would sharewith y’all a few facts about MSU and Ole Miss athletics. For some reason someOM fans believe that MSU is their “little brother”. These facts show otherwiseno doubt. The facts come from Wikipedia: For the "Big 3" sports(football, men's basketball, and baseball), head-to-head Mississippi Stateleads Mississippi 435–378–11.
I found the championship numbers, which includes tournament championships belowfrom Wikipedia and totaled them without double checking them. They may not be exact, but they will be close.
It's been 56 years since Ole Miss last <st1:stockticker w:st="on">SEC</st1:stockticker>Championship in football vs. 78 for MSU. As time goes on, those two arebeginning to look closer and closer together.
Since 1965, Ole Miss has won EIGHT SEC Championships, (6 baseball, 2 basketball)MSU has won EIGHTEEN (13 baseball, 5 basketball).
Since 1959, Ole Miss has won FOURTEEN (3 football, 9 baseball, 2 basketball),and MSU has won TWENTY TWO (13 baseball, 9 basketball).
Since 1941, Ole Miss has won FIFTEEN (6 football, 7 baseball, 2 basketball),and MSU has won TWENTY FIVE (1 football, 15 baseball, 9 basketball).
If you want to add "minor sports" to the Big 3--Women's Basketball,M/W Tennis, M/W Golf, M/W Track & Field, W Soccer, W Volleyball, and M/WCross Country, then:
Overall SEC Championships since 1941: Ole Miss has won TWENTY EIGHT (9 baseball,6 football, 8 men's tennis, 1 women's basketball, 1 men's golf, 1 men’s crosscountry, 1 women’s tennis, 1 softball), and Mississippi State has won FOURTYTHREE (15 baseball, 9 basketball, 7 men's tennis, 5 men's cross country, 3women’s basketball, 2 men's golf, 1 football, 1 men's outdoor track).
