Upset tonight by PSU, Maryland fans not happy with number of wins during his tenure.
Have heard more than once about his return to the Midwest to coach, dad lives in Lincoln.
Could he help NU? Seems more plausible than Hoiberg.

Turgeon is not leaving Maryland to come to Nebraska. With what he gets paid he can take a private jet to see Dad anytime he wants.

I just scanned through the entire list of Div I coaches on Wikipedia. Hard to come up with an obvious candidate that you would reasonably believe we'd have a chance to get. The only "hmmmm" I could come up with is Gregg Marshall. But he's making $3.5M at Wichita. I'm sure if he wanted in a P5 conference job he could do better than Nebraska.

Gregg probably should have left WSU two years ago, when he really could have had any gig he wanted. With that said, I think he coaching style fits very well in the Big Ten but like you said he already makes really good cash.

Otzelberger is intriguing. He was a damn good recruiter as an assistant at Iowa State and Washington. He brought in all of the talent for Hoiberg at ISU. Some Cyclone fans I know wanted him to take over when Hoiberg left.

However, he inherited a great situation at SDSU so he hasn't had to build up a program from the bottom. He has one of the best players in the country playing against Summit League competition. Most coaches would win a lot of games with that advantage. I think he'd bring in a fair amount of talent here, but would get out-coached badly by all of the great coaches in this league like Miles does.

If we go the mid-major route again, Nate Oats should be the choice.

He has won a ton of games, but it's interesting that he's in the 2nd year in the AAC and all of a sudden they're 14-13 and 7-8 in conference. Maybe now's the time for a move. Wishful thinking.

We need to keep in mind that every coach has different motivations for staying or going. I have no idea if he's interested, but Turgeon is intriguing because of the Lincoln family ties and his buyout is very low, just $350K. There are a segment of established coaches who's schools might feel like their act has grown tired and they can do better. Altman and Marshall may fall in that list, plus the former Miss State guy now at WKU. I think this is a good segment to target, plus Matta (still my #1), Martin and Hoiberg. Nebraska has a lot to offer financially and fan support-wise. Heck, ISU took Johnny Orr away from Michigan back in the day. Just gonna have to wait and see what happens the next several weeks; it will be interesting. In Moos we trust because we have no choice. Hope he's working the phones and his desk-drawer list!

I think its about time for Nebraska bball fans to accept the fact that the next coach isnt going to be someone who leads the team to a sweet sixteen berth or more. Right now we just need a guy who can consistently get us into the tournament. If that happens, then we can look at taking the next step but its clearly at least 4 or 5 years down the road.

Agreed that Nebraska isn't a sleeping giant that just needs the right coach to dominate. But I don't really see much of a contingent that is asking/expecting for more than a guy who can consistently get in the tournament. Hey, all I ask is not taking the "best talent in program history" and going 5-13 in conference with it.

I agree, but the names being thrown out there are based on credentials of an elite level of success. It may be wise to just accept that we probably aren't in a position to command the leadership of someone who has reached a level of success that we aren't anywhere close to having experienced.
