So now they have Parrish Alford covering both MSU and Ole Miss…time for MSU fans to cancel more subscriptions.

From what I read, they will still have a MSU beat reporter. Parrish is over all college coverage.

Why do I think that he worked for/wrote for ESPN? Am I misremembering or confusing his name with someone else?

Why? Just because he was an Ole Miss beat writer?

Our fans have to get out of “it’s a beat writers job to be a fan mindset.” It’s not their job.

And I’m making no defense of the Ledger, ever since Dustin Barnes (state grad, former editor and ranked top 30 editor under 30) left their competency levels have fallen off a cliff. They deserve no subscriptions.

Yep, Parrish Alford has been carrying water for OM for decades. Anyone who thinks this will work well for MSU just has their head in the sand.

We have plenty of fanboys. Just report the damn facts and don’t take cheap shots. How about giving us info we didn’t know before reading. If you got
Nothing to say then don’t say
Anything at all.

Yep. He is as big of a OM fanboy as Not A Fan and Yancy. He doesn’t even try to hide it. What did you expect when Sam Hall moved from the CL to The Journal, unbiased reporting with no underlying agenda?

I think Newspapers will eventually die out. Printing cost is just too high and they are competing with websites that don't have the overhead.

There are some older people that still get them but their numbers are dwindling.

As far as Mississippi State goes, I get better information from podcast and online articles than I ever did from a newspaper.

I do see Local news information suffering, things like pictures of the local pie eating contest or of a the boy scout troop awards ceremony may suffer but we got facebook for that stuff.

College sports is entrainment and supposed to be fun. I see no need for hard hitting, objective journalism in covering local university sports teams. To save money, I'd just buy stories from current beat writers, were I a newspaper editor/business manager. You'd sell much more copy/ads by pumping sunshine. If a scandal breaks, like the Art Bryles/Baylor situation, send in an investigative reporter.

BUT MSU can demand an 'unbiased' beat writer or cut them off!

Alford is an Ole Miss biased fan and MSU will NEVER get a fair story out of him!

I mean, his name is Parrish Alford. Is there any doubt who he's a fanboy of?

Does anyone get the Starkville Daily News? I haven't received the Ledger in years but have been thinking of subscribing to the online version of SDN.

I had a neighbor giving it to me every day and quit reading it, just nothing to it.

I go online and read the Commercial Dispatch (Columbus) for free as long as you don't have an ad blocker. They have a Starkville section but the paper kind of covers the whole Golden Triangle

They just hired a guy that graduated from Indiana. Alford is not going to be the MSU beat writer. He's going to be a columnist writing about both MSU and UM. I assume that does give him the freedom to be a little biased since it's more of a sport column rather than reporting - but he'd be an idiot to piss off half his subscribers. We'll see how it goes.

The Daily Journal sports section is trash and you shouldn’t subscribe

I know from the inside...it’s pure garbage. Parrish isn’t biased, he’s just terrible. They’ve got one great writer (Brad Locke) and he does high school stuff.

The website reporters and Hadad are where the news comes from anyway. The Journal and the Clarion Ledger are wastes of money in 2021.
