I don't think so. The AAC teams will be announced in May supposedly.
Maybe a buy game to up the schedule strength like Utah last year?
Kelly Hines is reporting this game will be late November and isn't part of the AAC/SEC deal. So these are the types of games we should be playing in non-con...now to get a return game from them. Also, maybe now Gragg can work a football deal with them for a home and home.Again, these are the types of games and schools we should try to play as much as possible as non-con opponents. Let's add Wake Forest and Northwestern, Pitt to that rotation as well.
We could go there in ‘24 and here in ‘25. Call him up and tell him to get it done,
Vandy went 0-19 in conference last season. Unless they are dramatically improved, I’m not sure this game improves our schedule strength.

Doubt they will finish with that high of a net rating this year. Stackhouse only has 6 players returning.(Only two of them having possible star status as applicable, and only one recruit so far.) Stackhouse will have to scramble just to fill his roster this year. And those returning 6 are incredibly young.
Improves optics. This game even if they are bad is better than beating up on New Orleans or Alcorn State

I went to both schools. And I always thought it would be a pretty good matchup for both schools.
I'm not super psyched about it this year since Vandy will likely be terrible, but they are usually better than this. It would be great to establish a competitive relationship with them that could be continued/renewed once they bounce back.

Exactly. Even when they are awful having that SEC, PAC-12, B1G, ACC, or B-12 by the name makes a difference when the talking heads (and therefore the committee) start talking about your strength of schedule. Also the old RPI was all about wins and losses, yours and your opponents, with the new NET you can get a good ranking, even if you lose, by playing respected teams and doing little things like limiting turnovers.
Vandy's NET ranking last year 155, 9-23 0-19 14th place
Utah's NET ranking last year 105, 17-15 11-8 3rd place
So he went and found a more winnable game with a slightly lower ranking. Not sure they can get a lower NET ranking this coming season, how can you do worse than zero for whatever lol.
It's an easy SOS boost and an example of what we should be doing more of, being smart in our scheduling by public perception and ranking.
Improved optics as long as we win. Losing to a team that goes 0-19 in the SEC will be a large black mark on any tourney resume. Bottom line....this is a must win game.
Anything under 125 helps and roads look better on the sheet.
75 is tier 1, so those are obviously the best
Basketball buy game money is peanuts and I doubt Vandy is the top of the list for spending on them.
Right. We should show a little self respect and demand a return game. I cannot imagine they are dropping 1 million plus like Michigan State.
There’s no comparison between football and basketball contract games. A home football game brings in millions of dollars for top tier schools.
Gragg isn’t the best at demanding anything that benefits TU athletics. He’s the type of AD that other ADs love to work with... they get whatever they want and we get it up the butt.
I watched a TU Fresno game (Nancy Lieberman Cline era) from a Friday’s or some crap like that near Vandy. It’s a city everyone loves, but that night was so crappy I kind of never want to go back. Worst panhandlers I’ve ever seen and this drunk lady at the bar legitimately scared me. It seemed like there were police everywhere but it didn’t matter. Everyone had their own bad day, but I guess I picked the wrong one there.
