I could care less the race, gender, religion etc of a person in any field or job except our Mountaineer mascot. But the two homecoming queens in the fall and now today's announcement just looks like we're trying too hard. Just let it happen don't make it happen that's all I'm saying.

I love joe rogan podcast. One guy on there said something like i would really like to see first woman president or something like that. Rogan was like, oh god, here we go, u go boy, earn those woke points. Lol
What I find divisive is this was the highlight of the announcement.

Some are still trying to categorize people. Its 2022. I think most people couldn’t care less if they are women or minority. Congrats to them. Let’s more past all these stupid categories. It just divides us more. But, as some would say, that is the ultimate the goal of certain folks. To divide.

He may have glossed over the article. Their credentials are off the charts for student leadership roles.
I am a proud woman and I believe someone like Nicki Haley would make an outstanding President. She has qualifications for the job and not because she is female. However, I believe the Mountaineer is a man with a beard. I would have been an outstanding Mountaineer mascot as my mouth would rock the stadium but there are some things that need to stay tradition. She could be Ms. Mountaineer or Mountain Mama or whatever but a Mountaineer is a man with a naturally grown beard. JMO

Exactly. In a color blind sexist free society this story would be the exact same story minus the words minority and female.
We should celebrate the fact the students got to elect their SGA reps.

Report it straight. Report they won the election. Don't even mention first hispanic and first females.
The fact that it's a "first" is newsworthy and should be included in the article. You'd have a fair point if they weren't breaking any ground.
Why is it newsworthy? We're they elected because they are women or minorities or were they elected because they are the best (in the eyes of the students/voters).
I mean I don't really care. I am happy for them and they seem highly qualified but it isn't newsworthy that women or minorities are qualified to do jobs. They do it every day in all walks of life.
but that means race is important. It shouldnt be. I grew up believing race doesn’t matter but recently it has become evident it is incredibly important. Be careful what you wish for.
edit. This isn’t a commentary on the sag as I think are all d bags anyway. In this case women minority d bags.
Sometimes, college acts like real life. Hate to report this but they were caught breaking campaign rules. They were campaigning at an active election site and also actively campaigned where alcohol was served. They admitted to the violations and sent out an apology for both charges and nothing was done. Those who lost were not happy as they followed the rules.
On a side note, one of the organizations that they lead, the members asked for the national organization to come in and audit their activity due to their perception (or reality) of favoritism and lack of following national organizational protocols.
Just another way to voice political leanings in a place where they will be accepted ….
