Time to try something different on offense. Try to emulate 2012 size and skill set. Move 6 9 Knox to the 4 and show him some TJones film. Jones got threes and also attacked the basket. Force feed him to become more physical and to get on the backboards. Not quite as strong as Terrence but has some of the same skill set. Got to mature now. Mix it up and get in closer. You can still get your threes but get that floater and jump hook working and get on the free throw line. Rebound. Get out on the break for some 3s in transition. PJ to the 3. Watch MKG film. Mike was not a great shooter but a physical tough emotional leader. Refused to lose. Relentless. Determined. Team player. Fill the lane and finish on the break. Defend. Drive it from the outside and get into the lane and to the rim. I think he is undersized for a 4. Get him on the wing. Probably as good a jump shooter. Rebound defend provide toughness. I know they may not be as talented but let’s mix it up and see if it sparks a change in the offense. Will benefit both players long term and I would like to see Knox closer to the lane and on the block. PJ can drive it from the wing. Lord knows we look limited and these two out of sorts on offense.

Some of these kids are promised to play facing the basket to get ready for the league. That’s how you convince them to come. Washington cannot handle the ball or shoot thus ne can’t play out on the floor

MKG wasn’t a great shooter passer or ball handler. He did fine playing the 3. I think PJ is better than you think. At his best he drives it from the foul line to the rim. His to come from standing still trying to pass out of a double team. He can do it and will have to to move up

You really think that PJ can handle the ball and pass like MKG?

I think a small ball lineup of SGA, Green, Diallo, Knox, and Gabriel/Washington may be Cal's best option in terms of minute distribution. Not a ton of bulk or muscle but that may be UK's best offensive lineup and God knows this team needs all the help it can get on offense. Defensively they're good enough to make a run, but the offense is gonna get em beat early in the NCAAT.

PJ isn't a 3. Not close.

did you read fan posts on here before the season started? Washington definitely was a 3 and had SF skills. UK signed 3 of the best SFs in the country in Knox, Washington, and Vanderbilt.

Tweaks are coming. Count on it.

One would hope. if the last two games I have watched would have been my first two games ever I would not even be a fan of the game or team. Would have found something else more entertaining like watching paint dry.

I could certainly be wrong, but it seems like Knox would get pushed off the block very, very easily.

Clearly that’s not the case. If anything all three of those guys are pf’s based on what they are currently capable of.

As for the op, I don’t see how that helps anything. As someone already suggested, I would try going small to help the offense. I don’t see how not having Richards out there hurts the defense that much. Three guards or have Vanderbilt, Knox, and PJ out there together.

Moving Knox might help a little bit, but will be a game changer for him and his NBA stock would be maximum effort every possession. I like the kid, seems like has a good attitude, wants to do good, and he seems to have a good demeanor about him on the court, but his lack of efforr, movement, and lack of defense kills me to watch. He can do so much more. When he had a 34 point game I kept thinking that's who Knox is. Be a game changer and put this team on your shoulders every night. He doesn't have to get 34 to be good but own the team and work that hard.

You can switch PJ and Knox all you want...but the other team can still easily play their own SF on Knox and PF on PJ...so what does it matter?

Besides...you throw Knox in the post with PJ on the wings along with Diallo at SG...that is a recipe for teams to just clog up the lane and dare UK to shoot even more bricks from 3pt land.

I hate watching knox camp out at the 3 line. His first impulse should be to attack and take turns posting him, Richards and PJ. How many times has knox posted up this year? Hell, we used to post Tony Delk...no reason a 6'9 guy with decent touch cannot make a shot inside.

He just isn't physical and has a weak base. We posted TD because our bigs could shoot well enough to stretch the floor and were good passers. And TD was so strong.

I thought Knox could be productive running curls 12-15 ft out but he just takes too long to collect on his jumper and is so easily knocked off balance it just hasn't worked.

Really? Because what I recall is speculation about Washington playing the 5 in small ball, with Knox/Gabriel/Vanderbilt being the forwards.

I think we should start Diallo at Center because he has that great leaping ability. Let PJ be our point guard.

No. People were excited that Cal signed 3 of the top SFs in the class when he hadn't landed a really good one in years.

Some tried pointing out that Washington was much more a PF, but eh.

Good points about TD. As for Knox, you may be right but pretty much our entire team has a weak base so maybe it is worth a shot. All year I have been telling myself "we have great pieces, they will improve as individuals and by march they will be playing as a team, lookout". Now some guys seem to be regressing and the offense is as disorganized as it ever was. The skill isn't there to create shots and when we run sets it looks like they are going through the motions...then jacking a bad shot from wherever they stand.

I would love to see Cal get Knox off of the 3pt line. If that means he's a 4, that's good. He needs to ne more active closer to the basket. I would like to see PJ moved to the bench. Seems like people want to complain about Gabe, but I had much rather see Gabe on the floor than PJ. I just don't see 1 thing he does well. Why Cal put him in for Vanderbilt with 2 mins to go against Tennessee, I have no idea. Atleast Vanderbilt might've been able to get a put back or something.

Best tweak I can think of is "press and pray". Make the game so fast the players don't have time to think.

PJ, hesitates to much & when he does he turns it over, he needs to either take the shoot, pass the ball or make a drive to the basket.

The offensive mindset of Delks coach at UK is just better than what is here currently. Coach Cal needs to "tweek" his offense in a hurry. Too predictable.

Well I think we all agree do something different! Go small. Press hard. Switch players. Run more motion. Screen. Get into offense faster. We need a big tweak and now!

I've been hoping for a Knox to the PF change. Play him like Derek Willis as a stretch 4 and have him battle in the paint for rebounds and put backs and then step out and shoot 3's. I just don't think he is quick enough to play the 3 against quicker small forwards. I wouldn't be opposed to Washington playing at center on occasion if we went small.
