Kinda like nuclear power... it's ok until they want to build one next to your house.
El segundo has chevrons massive refinery in its town. Chevron has funded the city with beautiful schools, a nature preserve, educational programs, community events.

Loudoun County in VA receives about 40% of its tax base from data centers, over a $1b a year. That allowed the county to cut property taxes by 30% and eliminate vehicle license fees.

China has been succeeding at misinformation about data centers. The whole water thing is ridiculous as almost every data center is closed loop cooling.

Ok, but the issue is the power bill. Who's paying the power bill? Because they've been pretending like they aren't creating a problem and asking everyone else to foot the bill. THATS THE PROBLEM. Solve your own power issue and stop expecting tax payers to bail you out.

So build a data center and a nuke plant next door. Duh...

And if your house is nearby, what happens to your property value?

Seems smart.
It is smart. We just took a two hour tour of a data center a few weeks ago. There is nothing there that I would object to as a neighbor. Walking down the corridors of servers a quarter mile long, they were humming but not enough to wear ear plugs. Some of the AI servers were louder and ear protection was need stand right next to them. They were enclosed. Standing outside the build I noticed nothing but well manicured landscaping and dozens of few hookups in the parking lot for the electric vehicles everyone seemed to be driving...

Do some research on why people are upset. You can find plenty of videos with what sounds like jet engines at takeoff in the background, people holding up well water that has become undrinkable, people whose utility bills have been jacked up, people who are mad about the lack of transparency, people who are mad at tax breaks for a few dozen jobs...

Unless there are guarantees that profits or ownership will be shared with the municipalities these are being built in, I don't see why anyone outside of construction firms(which are probably not local) and convenience stores would welcome them.

These aren't manufacturing plants that can commit to a decent amount of permanent positions vs the local resources needed to keep them running.

Interesting. The 100% MAGA candidate for governor in WI where I live has made being anti-data center a huge part of his campaign. He's gonna have to do a 180° to not piss daddy Donald off
Greg Abbott in TX has shifted as well. "Texas Governor Greg Abbott paused new data center connections to the state power grid in August 2026 to audit their massive energy and water use."

Eff data centers. They make rich people, richer and screw over anyone that lives in their footprint and not getting paid. This isn't political, it's financial. Anyone that supports this BS, open your eyes and do real research. It's like saying windmills cause cancer because certain people don't get any money.

I challenge you to do more research outside of your liberal bubble. Unfortunately, data centers have become a necessity to compete and stay ahead of China.
