Let their ace off the hook in the first - all sorts of consequences flow from that.

It was truly a terrible decision. You just can't take that chance in that spot.

That said, I don't know if it's a game changing decision. We still have 24 outs to spend. I'm more worried about Small having to throw 25 pitches in the first inning than anything else.

He must have got a late jump or hesitated to make sure it dropped, because he should have made that ahead of the throw.

There is a thin line between aggressive and stupid and he was a long way from the line on the stupid side on that one.

Would they have called it interference if he had not slid and steamrolled him? Because there’s no way he has a free pass to the base standing up.

If you can't take that chance in the first inning then when can you? The play was in front of him. It sucked to come up with nothing there but I didn't have a problem with it. Jake has played that way for 4 years, dance with the one that brung you.

He had a path to the base. It was clear and obvious. They reviewed it and agreed.

Begging for calls that aren't there to overcome a really stupid decision by your player is silly.

I’m not arguing that he shouldn’t have attempted to take 3rd. He shouldn’t. But the pitcher is standing in the line between 2nd and third and the 3rd baseman is north of him in the line that they normally run in. Jake almost upended him on the slide. If he doesn’t slide, one or both of the Stanford players end up on the ground.

LOL. Yeah let's attack our players and our fans. What a great fan.

You gotta understand the situation as a baserunner. Your ace just labored through the top of the first and Stanford has momentum. You get on base and have a chance to answer with a big inning against a guy who has been almost unhittable in the post season. You are on base with your big bats coming up. You just can't run into an out there.

After two, their ace is at 41 pitches. Even if we don’t score in the first we can add to his pitch count.

We are harping on one play. As I said originally, I don't think it was a game changing play because there's a lot of baseball left to play. But if you want to talk pitch counts, Jake getting thrown out there probably saved their guy five to ten pitches, which goes back to my original point about knowing the situation. There are times to be aggressive and times to be careful.

Whatever. Be a fan man.

I’ll explain it for you.

The fielder of a thrown ball has a right to occupy the space to catch the ball. He caught it, Jake hit his ankle, and the player tagged Jake out. It’s not obstruction. IF the other player had made the catch and tag, it would have been obstruction.

You're wasting your time. You gotta agree that the umpires are trying to cheat us on every play, and if you don't, you're not a real fan.

It’s a pretty tough rule to understand. What I’m most grateful for is they used replay to confirm the correct call was made.

I didn’t like jakes decision to go, But against someone’s ace, that extra base is worth the risk many times.

Only thing that Jake did that has truly mattered so far is keeping us from being done 4-0 at the end of the first. Would have probably been even worse had he not made that catch.

He's a ball player trying to make something happen. Gutsy, if a little reckless, base running has worked for him and the team all year.

I just wish he'd start hitting the ball better.
