I have tried not to feel this way but at this point, I can’t help it. Let me know if anyone else feels this way because hopefully I’m not alone.

I want to believe and have faith in this staff. I want to give them this one last chance. In my mind, I am actively rooting against the staff and I can’t stop it. I don’t want this staff to land another good recruit. I don’t want Stokes, the kid from Baylor, the kid from Iowa State none of them. I don’t want them to hit on an overseas player nothing. I do not want the staff to remotely have a chance of having a decent season. I do not want the administration to have any excuse to keep Pope and his staff for a fourth year. In my mind, I am willing to punt this season in order to get rid of Pope. I truly believe as long as he is our coach. We might have decent seasons but we will never be dominant again. That is not acceptable to me.

Please crucify me and tell me how wrong I am. Because I can’t help feeling this way.

I'll never root against them getting guys and being successful just because they annoy me. The failures are why they've annoyed me, so if they start having successes I won't be annoyed anymore. I don't give a crap who is in that seat as long as they WIN. When you stop winning and annoy me with drama and making excuses like Cal did, like Stoops did like Pope is doing, that's when I want someone new in the seat. If Pope stops failing, I'm fine with him staying in the seat, so no I am not actively rooting for him to fail, because I hate watching Kentucky LOSE.

I was finished after last years Alabama game, but so many around here just can’t see it and that’s pathetic.

I decided to take a wait and see approach to the staffs portal recruiting this year. Welp - I waited and I damn sure saw. It’s going pretty much exactly as I suspected. Stokes is not even close to being good enough to fix this mess, even if we land him.

We are sacrificing another entire season of Kentucky basketball and it absolutely sucks to see the legacy smeared this way.

This is similar to how a lot of people felt during the 10-loss-Tubby days. Many were willing to sacrifice a bad year in hopes it would send Tubby out the door. But Mitch just sat on it and let it run out for 5 years too long.
I’m not sure Tubby would have been fired after the two bad years in ‘06 and ‘07. He had the NC then followed that up with an elite 8 in ‘99. The from ‘01 - ‘05 he was a 2 seed twice and a one seed twice with two other elite eights and imo the best team in the country in ‘03.

I’m not at that level yet but I am close. There are just so many different things that tell me he isn’t going to work out here and I hate that because I really want him too but I think most fans can see that it’s evident it’s not going to

Not a pope fan. HATED the hire. I still hate the hire and I want him out. But I will NEVER root against the team I have followed my whole life. I'd much rather root for Pope to pull a rabbit out of his hat and have wild success and make me look like a fool then see him continue to fail so I can get a new coach. We have to deal the cards we are dealt

Here's true honesty. You've been on this board for 10 years and have less than 600 posts. You have described the mindset of a troll because you are one.
The good thing about your post is it draws out other like minded "fans" who agree with you.
Y'all, please keep it up. It's not quite beach weather here, except for spring breakers and pastie skinned Canadians. This is more entertaining than a drunk 3 legged Giraffe!

This is where Im at and I understand where you’re coming from. Because if Pope did somehow sneak into a Sweet 16 or something like that next year, this thing likely gets prolonged which is what we don’t want. Just to be clear I think it’s more probable that we don’t even make the tournament. Pope could coach basketball for 120 years and never win anything.

Yikes, I bet you’re a blast at a party. I’m sorry my post count isn’t up to your standards. No, I do not live my life on this board. I do not post every day. Sometimes I even go weeks without even looking at this board. You are pathetic and must live a pretty pathetic life if you have to get on a college basketball board to bash people to make yourself feel better. Good for you.

For me, right now, I have more pessimism than optimism, but I'm clearly not rooting against Pope and the staff. I hope they can construct a quality roster that can be in the Top Ten, a 1-2-3 seed and have a legitimate shot at making the Final Four. Honestly, though, I don't see it happening ... not right now, at least. I do not see enough talent yet, but there is still time.
Things can change quickly with a flurry of quality signings to balance out a nice roster, both starters and back-ups. Hopefully, it happens. We'll see ...

Pope will win 22 to 24 games this year including 1 or 2 in the SEC & NCAA TOURNAMENTS.
That means a year 4 under a new athletic director. His buyout after year 4 will be $9 to $12 million depending on if he gets to Sweet16 in years 3 or 4.
It’s like having a wonderful Wife but a Mother in Law that you hate = you just have to accept the inevitable & move forward hoping for the best. Pope is going NOWHERE SOON.

:ROFLMAO: Pathetic!? I live a half mile from the beach and can be there in 3 minutes on my golf cart. I have a pool for the days I don't want to deal with sand. I've been married to the same woman for 42 years. My life is far from pathetic.
Pathetic would be sitting around wishing my favorite team would suck just to prove me right. Why would an actual fan want their team to suck? Why would your life be better winning with a different coach than winning with this one? That's troll logic right there.
I could have written your response for you. The "I'm sorry I don't live on this board" part is the mantra of every low post count "fan" that just shows up to pour salt on the wound.
I'm not complaining about you not posting much. I looked back at your past posts, more of your negativity wouldn't really make things better.

Dear God, you truly are stupid as hell. You completely missed the point.
I got his point Junior. But no matter which "elite coach" he shoehorns in, none will take this job. Elite coaches already have good jobs, they're already rich. And they can have a down season or two and not instantly have the angry hordes screaming for their heads. If next year is bad, I suspect we'll be coach shopping. Until that happens I'm rooting for the one we have to be successful and become an elite coach.

If we could land some elite recruits, then I'd be happy that we could potentially be a championship caliber team with Pope. If we are horrible, then that's okay because we can move on from Pope. The absolute worst case scenario is s fringe top 25 team that makes it to the Sweet 16 next year. That would be "good enough" for a portion of our fan base and we'd be stuck in mediocrity.

With that said, I don't blame anyone for wanting to see this experiment implode. Most of us just want to be competitive again, and it doesn't seem like that will ever be possible with Pope. I can understand why people feel the best thing would be for this season to be a failure.

I think the vast majority of fans want it to work with Pope. He's one of us. He LOVES BBN and UK. He's got his dream job I believe. But this next season is make or break for him. I'm sure he knows that and would readily admit it if asked. I know he's had some injuries to key players the last two seasons, and that hasn't helped the situation. But lets face it, he's not gotten the level of player that is needed to really excel at UK. I think his coaching style is a little, maybe a lot, on the soft side. He played for Pitino, and it's a shame some of his hard edge coaching didn't become part of his coaching style.

You and your ilk really should just pick another team to follow that makes you happy. I've had enough of bandwagon fans who don't believe in backing their team through thick and thin.

I can't think this way at all OP. Not sure how things will turn out with MP, but I will be a fan, not blind faith mind you, but will always hope for the best each season.

I never overtly root for our failure, but I also can understand the OPs mindset. With Mitch pulling the strings he will continue to serve us mediocrity or worse if he is allowed to. We have seen the same thing play out with BCG, Joker, Tubby, Stoops, and Calipari. I don't know if it's antagonism against the fanbase, obliviousness, or just plain stubbornness. But "call me when we are 2-10" only seems to understand when his face is rubbed in his failures to hire the correct hire and or demand certain standards. I won't hope it happens, but sometimes the band aid needs to be ripped off. As a fan I would rather sacrifice 1 season than plod along for years in malaise , mediocrity and failure. And sadly, I think it's the only thing the UKAA leadership understands. We all can see where we are trending, and we have to scream and be negative to get the ship Captain to correct course. We aren't bad shipmates. We are simply staring at the iceberg! CORRECT COURSE!

I this was a thread about redundant phrases.

I am sadly distraught that I cannot visibly see other people's provided offerings.
