Will be interesting to see how many of them see action today.
Malik Washington already.

He was?
Graphic during broadcast said “Jesse Brown and Malik Washington will not return due to injury”.
Damn. Coaches really like him.

Surprised that he played ahead of heralded fresh like Kirtz and GHP. Says a lot about how good he is. Hope his injury was minor.
I’d sure like to see GHP running one of those fly patterns down the sideline. Looks like we have a QB who can actually throw the ball down the field
I was thinking that too — that he makes those catches that McGowan and JJJ missed.
Hoping he at least earns some time against UMass. Eager to get the youth movement, along with ARY, started sooner rather than later.
Don't mean to hijack, but this topic made me think about something that hasn't come up in a while...wasn't there some chatter in the NCAA about prohibiting the live play of true freshmen if their high school grades didn't meet certain minimums? From a college student development perspective, this seems like an obvious, smart choice (even though it would work to the detriment of many programs).

Whether he would have made those catches or not, I think you preserve the redshirt as long as you will win with what you got. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one if the heralded WR’s play against MSU.What basis do you have to make that claim with any degree of confidence? If he was better than those guys, he'd be playing right now. He needs to learn how to run patterns and block before he can get on the field.

Did you guys see Hooper on the sidelines? A good veteran Big Ten CB would not let him get off the line of scrimmage. There is a lot that goes into playing WR, particularly at NU where the blocking responsibilities are significant.
Not sure I get the comment. GHP certainly looks the part on the sidelines.
He looked thin to me in the few shots they showed him on the sidelines. I know he weighs ~200 but it looks like he needs to build some upper body strength. I am not sure he would be able to get off the line of scrimmage against tight man coverage.

My point was more that if there were any team to give him some run, it would have been UNLV. Obviously he is not ready to be a WR1, but JJJ and Kyric were super open on those deep balls. Maybe GHP couldn’t have gotten open at all, I don’t know.
I hope Kyric is OK. I think he was so used to adjusting mid-route to Clayton’s imperfect deep balls that when Hunter threw it right where it needed to be, he was almost disoriented.
Catching the ball is just one of the last in a sequence of tasks a WR needs to complete to put himself in a position to catch the ball. I doubt Genson at this point is able to complete any of those tasks better than the guys playing ahead of him. JJ and Kyric are good WRs.
Uh yeah, GHP already has a more developed physique than some of our “big” WRs had as seniors. Looked like a unit to me.I was sitting behind the bench. He looks how you want them to look. Same with Connor Foster, by the way.
I think the opposite. If any of the freshman are close to being next man up due to injury, I hold off as once you get to those final four games you are safe. Last 2 conference games, CCG, and bowl game sounds good.My point was more that if there were any team to give him some run, it would have been UNLV. Having met him a few times, he’s already a full unit, Corbi. The physique is not his problem - I suspect you’re right that technique and blocking responsibilities is what keeps great talents like him on the bench early on.
