Disappointing end. It could have been more than it was. Still better than season 2...but comes in a distant second place behind season 1.

I kinda liked the ending. Sometimes it's not a grand conspiracy, but something as simple as that.

Agreed. I really, really liked that finale. Season 3 may have been the most consistently good season of TD, but Season 1's highs were some of the best television ever. Really hard to compare the seasons, imo.

That line about head shittin' birds slayed me. :joy::joy::joy:

It's almost impossible to compare the seasons, which I think works well for the show. Every season has it's own flare. And I really liked seeing Dorff eat up that role.

Did you see before the episode, they showed a bunch of clips from other HBO shows and they had a Deadwood clip buried in it?

“My job ain’t to follow the law, Al. My job is to interpret it."

Completely boned up.

Just finished the 3rd season. As someone else said above, the ending was very vanilla. Such a damn shame because it came out of the gates very strong. But it finished very meh. Either way, Mahershala Ali was brilliant as was the other actors. The acting was great. The writing? Not so much. The writing ruined the season, could have been Season 1 special but nope. Looking at you Nic Pizzolato

This is why I prefer British detective shows, the writing is almost always very strong. Not many great American detective shows. Season 1 of True Detective was pure briliance which Pizzolato played big role (created the show, wrote it, directed some, etc) but he could never find his footing for season 2 or 3. Maybe 1st season was just that damn good and everything after it was going to suck regardless? But other than season 1 True Detective, not many great American detective shows. The Killing was solid but was very repetitive and dragged out season 1 and 2 when it could been shorter. The other seasons after it was solid when it switched cases. The Sinner was pretty solid. The Alienist was pretty good, had a very British feel to it. Of course, main actors weren't even American. That's about all I can think of. American detective/cop shows just flat out suck *** for most part.
