Don't know the dudes background but a lot of acts of violence are set up now on social media. There is a strong culture of "not backing down" in inner city areas, it is better to shoot or be shot than to back down if someone fronts you.

ESPN article indicates he was kicked off the team last November. Not a wise move to threaten someone with murder to “protect your family”. Shouldn’t you be calling the police if you were threatened? Some people are born without a brain.

I didn't see enough of the back story to really understand what all his tweets meant, so to me it's mostly jibberish.. It's free speech to me unless it's clear direct threat at someone. I'm probably in the minority on this, but then everyone is super sensitive these days.

Someone came to his house last time so he called the cops, said next time it's the morgue. That alone tells me this is directed towards someone.

Yeah, I know, but it doesn't say who and if someone broke into your house, you have the right to defend yourself.. plenty of people wouldn't hesitate to shoot an intruder.. again, I don't know what the back story is, so to me the context of the tweets isn't clear.

I’m not sure what the guy is talking about. But I’ll tell you this, making threats is is not free speech. Pretty cut and dried, if you ask me. Has nothing to do with being sensitive.

Your allowed to say what you want until it impacts others. If you want to try to tell me that threatening me doesn’t impact me, then we have a strong difference of opinion on this one.

Agreed. And not only that, but I don't want anyone on my team that is stupid enough to make threats of violence on social media.

You do not have the right to shoot someone unless they are armed and acting violent towards you, you will be arrested if they are unarmed.

That is completely dependent on the state. In Texas, if someone were to try to break into my house or car, I can shoot. Doesn't matter if they have a gun, knife, or are completely unarmed. I'm sure Texas isn't the only state with this law.

I don't know how Michigan law is on the matter but it's not uncommon for unarmed intruders to get shot in Omaha and the resident does not end up in the slammer. You have to be justified, in fear for your life basically which doesn't exactly require an armed intruder. I remember several years ago a man shot his landlord because he thought the guy was an intruder coming in through his window. The landlord was unarmed and the charges were dropped.

In Michigan as well as here in Arkansas the intruder has to have a gun or knife.

That is not correct. In Michigan, the legal standard is whether you have a legitimate fear of imminent bodily harm.

Which I believe is the test for most states. If you fear for your life you are justified in shooting someone (as if they continue to approach you). If the person is moving away from you (as in crawling out a window with your tv you are not justified in shooting them)...Texas being one exception.

I assure you if the intruder is unarmed and you have a gun you will be arrested. My brother was a cop in Detroit and I've read up on the laws. It's the same hear in Arkansas. It might work if you are a woman but certainly not a football player.

There’s no one standard whether or not your brother was a cop. The standard in my state is that lethal force is justified if I have a legitimate fear of bodily harm.

It’s wise to know what the laws are where you live rather than listen to uninformed, random people online or rely on the advice of a relative who lives 6 states away.

While I know my state’s laws (which are similar to 4 other states I have lived in) — for a state like Massachusetts or California I am sure they are radically different. But I don’t care. At all. Since I don’t live there.
