'We're an American Band' was one of the one's I was thinking of.
Wow. I did not know about all of these except Springsteen.
The song that made me think of this question has to be one of the greatest ballads ever written and performed.

And I’m sure if you dig through an album from either Cursive, Hop Along, Rilo Kiley, Big Thief, the faint, and countless other saddle creek bands you’d find a song or two that reference Omaha. None just come to mind.

This song was referenced earlier. For my money, this song is way better than anything the Red Hot Chili Peppers ever made. For real. Go see this band play live. They kill every time they play. Their shows are amazing.
