That’s a SUPER young core at Arkansas if that comes to fruition, very very very talented on paper, but the idea of winning with freshman just isn’t there anymore.
Can you imagine if following the Wisconsin game in 2015 someone would have said , “this is the last final 4 in Caliparis career “. Everyone would thought that person was crazy.

But that’s whats going to happen.

Insane to think about. Although Fox team got robbed of one. We choked two other years against teams we should have beaten. One stop against Auburn and we couldn’t get it.

Especially now that other teams are targeting and buying players that are experienced and similar talent. I believe Cal could’ve won with freshman when he was here if he had done better with the coaching aspect but not now days. Now days there are just to many good teams to have to play in the tournament after being worn down all year.

I'd have kept Cal if I knew we were going to get Pope.

If the donor kept paying, I bet he lands AJ to go with Acuff.

Then maybe Stokes to go with Smith Jr.

As it is, we're stuck with Cult Mindset Mark.
Not a single peep from you, the bug Dr. or RichieRich about the signing of N'diaye. UK fans on your own terms is no UK fan at all.

No idea why an international player would choose Cal. He hates them, has no idea how to use them. Cal only is interested in ready made pros. Cause he can’t coach. Much better options for the kid I would think. Also, the kid played prep ball in Arizona and they’ve not shown much interest? Kind of a red flag to me.

Fans are with their team through good and bad. Look at Jets fans, Browns fans, etc. Clowns literally cheer for their team to lose so it can be done the way they want it to. They'll never admit it, but it's cold hard reality.

No doubt, but Poythress makes all the difference in that game if he's healthy. You put him on Dekker.
Yeah, but damn, how much talent does he need?
That team was better in November than they were in March, because they played with their hair on fire. They had length, size and athletesism in spades and they let 1 guy beat them, just like in 2014.
Duke had no problem beating Wisconsin twice that year and they didn't have Poythress either. Heck, they had a center that couldn't guard me. Duke was playing 4 on 5 when they were on defense and had no issues.
Cal got in the way, he had the lead against Wisconsin and took the air out of the ball and that cost him the game.
He did it against Auburn in 2019 and 2 years ago with his Arkansas team, he blew a 19 point lead in the sweet 16 and lost.
Cal needs extreme top end talent to win, but even then, the second he gets in the way, he screws it up.
If there was no NBA lockout in 2012, he has zero national titles.
He has 1 offense and 1 defense he runs and that just isn't going to cut it in today's game.

got to a final 4 lol

pope ain't sniffing that

that just shows how the standards have shifted
Honestly, anyone could have gotten to the Final Four with that team. In fact, Calipari was really lucky he didn’t lose to Notre Dame. By the way, Calipari had another loaded roster this season, and Pope, even with his bad luck with injuries again, still kicked Calipari’s ***.

Pope has won three tournament games his first two seasons here, despite awful luck with injuries. Calipari, despite loaded rosters, won 1 tournament game his last 4 seasons as the Kentucky coach. I hate pointing out facts.

Not me . Anything to get us out from under that 35 million dollar buyout was worth it. Besides that, Pope has more tournament wins than Cal did his last 5 years here .

And I’m no Pope fan , but Cal was HORRIBLE at the end of his tenure here and we were screwed with that buyout.

Who celebrates the 5th best Senegalese player that nobody on the planet had ever heard of last week?

It reeks of desperation
I love how you and a few others act like some sort of bad-a when in reality you're weaker than kittens, mentally. Get a hobby, find something to be happy about. Trying to drag others down to your level is chump behavior.

So you prefer Pope over keeping Cal? Why? Cal has more wins in the two years, and has one more tourney win. He's also bringing in a guy in Smith who might be the #1 pick next year. Thomas and Richmond are considering coming back as well.

Arkansas to land Miika Murinnen

Heck of a player, likely top ten pick, good get

So, if it's Cal coaching him we expect-

  • He'll forget about him being on the bench
  • If he misses a shot, he'll have a short leash
  • If he's a good 3pt shooter, he'll take a step back in %
  • If he's a good 3pt shooter, he'll take a step back in production
  • Cal won't teach/run good screens to get him open
  • If he's a good FT shooter, he'll get so little practice at it that his % there will drop off as well
  • Magically, once he's drafted or transfers and his confidence isnt destroyed, his production and efficiency will return to pre-Cal levels
Wow. That sucks for him. Cal turned DJ Wagner into a 4yr player without much hope of being drafted. Wagner wasn't the only one.

I hope he makes a better choice.

Simply because Cal had a 35 million dollar buyout and would be almost impossible to get rid of .

So what if he’s won a couple more games …you think that’s good enough?

Acuff is a MUCH better player than Smith imo .

Cal will NOT get past the sweet 16 next year. His team last year was better.

Cal hasn’t put a quality defense on the court in almost a decade.

Neither Cal nor Pope are the answer.
But Cal had the 35 million dollar buyout.

We got extremely lucky Arkansas got us out of that deal.

There are several programs that I would love to have their coach.
Arkansas ain’t one of them .

Not anyone could GET that team though. Y'all are acting relieved because our current coach can't recruit a loaded roster, even with $20+ million in revenue share.

Yes. We beat Arkansas this season, which was our highest ranked victory. However, Calipari ended up winning the SEC championship as a three seed while we were a nine seed and got knocked out in the quarterfinal. When was the last time we played on a Wednesday in the tournament? Bragging about that regular season win is Hoosier behavior.

Who put the roster together? That falls directly on the coach. Injuries happen. He should have recruited another point guard. Also, let's be real, even if they were healthy, that team was ill-constructed and the players he brought in were not Final Four level players.

Mark Pope is a really likable guy, understands the tradition, is great with the fanbase, and is a beloved former player. However, that doesn't mean jack crap because he's 53 and been a head coach for 10+ years, yet he's never won anything significant and most of his career has been 10+ loss seasons.
