i know this is a completely random question but why do so many of us dislike him? I’m a bit too young to remember anything specific. Just wondering as it seems that quite a few don’t like him at all. Thanks in advance.

I wasn’t there but i have heard stories bandied about about him being a douchebag to kids just wanting an autograph.
Don’t know why people don’t like him. I think rumors and false stories get spread like wildfire from people who don’t know him.
I sat next to him in Indy a couple years ago during the Wichita State tourney game. Even though he was the head coach at St. Louis at the time, he was cheering like crazy for the Cats. He talked basketball with my son for a lot of the game also. I thought he was a great guy.

I can tell you that my wife and I run a golf cart business in Louisville and Eddie Ford has called on us many times to rent multiple carts for the “Eddie Ford Hoopfest” that he runs. Funny thing is though he ALWAYS was sure to let us know who he was and really expected the rental and delivery for FREE with him being Eddie Ford and all! Smh! Not happening.
He happily posed for a picture with my boy outside the FedEx Forum in Memphis prior to the tournament game against UCLA in 2017.
If you really knew the family, you’d have the answer to your question. He may have flashes of non-dickery, but that doesn’t hide the fact that he is indeed a dick. And his dad is about the most arrogant jackass out there.

He did a basketball camp at my high school. He screwed every girl he could and I lost much respect for him. And it was technically illegal.
I witnessed him belittle a 12 year old boy in a parking lot for asking for his autograph. Kids was demoralized. Humiliated and completely let down.
I was walking by him in the lot next to Wildcat Lodge one afternoon. I was a good few feet out of his path. He was close enough for me to hear him and he said, “get the **** out of my way *****.” No reason at all, had a nasty look on his face like he wanted to punch me. At the time, he was already gone and I was a sophomore I believe. I loved him as a player. That soured my feelings a bit. When I saw the incident with the kid, it ruined it all.

You don’t do that to anyone but especially not to a kid. If I was that kid’s dad words probably would have been exchanged.
He should be damn glad that anyone still cares about him. I mean he hasn’t played for UK in 20+ years and kids that never saw him play still want to talk to him and get his autograph. He should be freaking grateful that his time at UK still counts for something and diminishes his dickish

Maybe he did but there are now an inordinate number of replies that outnumber yours. KSR (who I think are 2/4 from Madisonville) has even gone the record documenting his cockiness. Wow is all I can say!!! You’d think that a guy that’s so small physically wouldn’t be such a big *******! I had zero idea about all of this! I can tell you from dealing with Eddie that he got it very honest.
I went to grade school with him. He was cocky and stuck up. My dad had a few dealings with Eddie Ford. Eddie thought everything should just be free for him since he ran the only sporting goods/trophy shop in town.
I went to Caldwell County Bordering Hopkins County and played softball and Basketball with a bunch of guys from Madisonville and hardly none of them had anything good to say about him or his dad. I personally have never even been around him so I really don't know but most of these guys are pretty good people.

A little off topic... but I find it amazing how many people knew a young Travis Ford. As much as I love top 20 recruit these days it be pretty cool for some of us to grow up watching/experiencing a Kentucky kid. Oh well those days are prolly long gone.

Just caught my attention that you would assert Travis' character would forever remain unchanged because of his behavior on an unorganized basketball court in his mid 20s, but your character HAS changed / improved. These were the "tense" or verbage you used. Again, my fault for paying attention so closely.
I've met Travis a few times. Unfortunately for me, it has always been in relaxed, zero chaos settings where I never had the opportunity to witness what is clearly the "real" Travis Ford. But I've heard the stories. What they say about smoke? And there's one poster in this thread who should definitely know. If he says Travis is a jerk, he is. Evening star is up. I see the light.

Back then it was an awesome time to be in high school in Kentucky. In one year my school (Union County) played (and lost) to both Travis Ford and Calbert Cheaney. I think Ford dropped 47 pts raining threes, and Cheaney went for over 50 with more dunks and alley oops than I’d ever seen in a high school game.
very similar to a certain "King" and his family in Owensboro. Both players that I enjoyed watching both total pricks then and now. The "King's" new persona as a reformed guy is hilarious.

exactly, when I saw Rex out and he was drinking and hitting his weed pen I was cracking up. Some people can drink and smoke and be fine, people that abused both in the past plus prescription meds and it led them to stealing ipads from a mall should just stay sober. But at least his legendary coke sex parties seem to have ended, at least in Lexington.
I was shocked that Missouri recruited him. I was equally shocked that UK took him as a transfer. I didn't think he was all that in HS. He did well at UK though, and I'm always glad that a player does well at UK.

He was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I've always heard he's a jerk but I have no first hand experience. Until I do he gets a thumbs up from me.
