Transfer Signing Limits?

I think it was pretty much a given that "portal transfers" would have a negative effect on the recruiting trail.
Are there any stats on how many highs School players Signed NOLi for FBS this year? Also its not a given that these 2000 in the portal will still siign at FBS or even another school. Think of some of our portal guys, many of them never saw the field, so its tough to see how they compete against high school recruits. I think the bigger driver this year is the “free year”. Guys getting one more crack to play.

When do we see commitments from the players in the portal? 2nd semester begins in the next few weeks.
Are Letters of Intent even meaningful anymore? Can’t a kid sign a LOI and transfer right away if he senses a better situation for themself?
I would think next week after the holidays. There are kids moving now but it's dribs and drabs.
One of my concerns with the transfer portal is with the high volume of transfers in the system, will they (ALL) be able to find a college? So many students, not a lot of room at schools.

Bottom line in football is there are 85 scholarships available per team. Each team basically maxes out every year. Hence the same amount of kids will be on scholarship now as there were before the portal. Most kids in the portals are at the back of the bench and will not be getting new scholarship offers. Their playing careers are over. they just don't know it yet.
In many cases doesn't it pretty much equal out...using very make believe numbers...lets say there are 1000 current G/P 5 players in 2020.
30% decide to use the portal and now you have 300 kids in the transfer portal. That is 300 slots some teams can choose a transfer over a HS kid...But doesn't that also open 300 spots from the teams those kids transferred out of?
I actually think this will hurt kids in the portal more than HS kids. If I am a player, I would only go into the portal if I know I am good enough to start at an equal school and only 2nd on my current depth chart because I have a top round NFL pick ahead of me and he either has the same or more years available to me. Or, I know all I need is a chance to play to prove myself and willing to take a step down and start at a lower level. Or, the coach has told me I really should look at the portal and playing snaps on a different team is more important than staying with my original school.
What the portal will do- make teams like Rutgers have the ability to improve much faster than ever before. And also make for some really good G5 or MAC level type teams really good.

FWIW, there are currently over 2000 football players in the transfer portal. Question is: How do you keep the scholarship roster at 85 when you have incoming HS recruits, transfers, and those on your team that want to take advantage of the free year? I think many players are going to get "the talk."
Yes. Transfers are a wash. In a normal year.
But with a “free” year of eligibility a lot of these transfers are guys who otherwise would have already used up their eligibility or are redshirts who would not be given a scholarship for a fifth year at their current school.
The 85 player limit is out for 2021. But that doesn’t mean all schools will be able to afford to give out more scholarships
It probably means mid-tier or lower ranked high school kids will be slow played while schools look for portal players that are closer to being able to contribute on the field. Once the portal dries up, schools might look at the HS kids again to fill up their rosters.
Transfer portal is a great thing for schools like Rutgers and also great for players who want to play and not ride the bench. It will probably mean that 5* HS QB's, etc will only sign with Alabama, OSU, etc. If they get beat out then they will transfer to another school.
With no limit on scholarships, why wouldn't big money schools bring in their full quota (25) of HS kids and then let the ones who turn out not to be starters enter the transfer portal after a year or two?
Here's what I found:
The cap limit for the total number of athletes you can have on scholarships will not be in effect for the 2021-22 school year. That goes for all fall and winter sports.
In the following year (2022-23) the total scholarship cap goes back into effect. It s something else to manage, and will be a problem for some teams were everyone to decide to come back. That’s unlikely to happen, but it’s something that every team in all of those sports will have to plan for.
Well you'll have 2 years worth of players who finish their eligibility so that should be manageable.
Why do I see blank pages on the first 3 postings by Heaven University in this thread? There is nothing there. It is happening elswhere in other posts as well.

The NCAA needs to raise the limit to maybe 90-93 for 2022 so there isn’t a huge roadblock for kids.
Big Ten scholarships are 4 years guaranteed. Other conferences could do it and have been for a long time I should add. It's called over signing. The SEC signs on average a full recruiting class extra than a Big Ten school over a 5 year period.
Are they being immature and also engaged in douchebag theatrics? Or are they being immature at engaging in douchebag theatrics?
I ask only because (a) I'm a mature douchebag, by which I mean I've had lots of experience at being a douchebag - not that I'm mature, generally speaking, and (b) I'm really bad w/ambiguity. It's a real problem, but I'm working on it.
