Kids make life altering decisions all the time. Minors need to attend months of psychiatric meetings on top of having parental consent from both parents before they can even start with any gender altering medication. Is it a perfect system? No. But republicans need to foh with the “we just want to protect the kids” nonsense when they’re fighting against things like free lunches for students across the country which would do more for helping youth development than almost anything else.

The bill says that the state can claim temporary emergency jurisdiction over a child if they are in the state and “the child has been unable to obtain gender-affirming health care.” It is meant to prevent law enforcement from removing a child from parental custody based on an order made outside the state.
Minnesota lawmakers have advanced legislation introduced by a transgender representative that could strip custody from parents who do not support their child changing genders.
