one week away. Who is your choice now after the loss of Chris Froome?
even with the horrific crash by Froome, ineos has perhaps the 2 favorites in G. Thomas (reigning TDF champ) and the upstart climbing monster Egan Bernal.

However, Movistar looks very dangerous with Mikal Landa, Alejandro Valverde, Carapaz, and Quintana

I’d like to see Valverde take it. Bernal will make it interesting, for sure. Thanks for posting.

I'll take Armstrong and the U.S. Postal team, PEDs and all, against all the other dopers. Loose paraphrase from Bill Burr: Our dopers beat your dopers, deal with it.

Who would have known----Sagan gets out sprinted by a lead out rider. 2 GC favorites hit the deck on the first day. 20 more stages of drama to follow

It is becoming too frequent that TdF champions are decided based on the ability to stay upright rather than who is the most fit. Don’t have an answer but crashes are playing too much of a role. Maybe thinning the field or awarding the same time at the 2-3k mark of sprint stages so the GC riders don’t have to get caught up in all the chaos near these finishes.

Shortening the sprint stages should have happened a long time ago, and the idea of awarding the same time at the 5KM to go mark (or whatever) is a great one..having said that nothing is going to eliminate the crashes, and to be honest I kinda like em :)

All the doping aside ... the fact that Lance was able to avoid any major mishaps for 7 consecutive years was truly remarkable.

Minus that little side trip down the side of the mountain when Beloki went all bat **** cra cra coming in way to hot in that certain corner and the fan who got to close to him when he was leading up that one climb with Ulrich in tow,...agreed. Miracle he didn't get seriously hurt and I'm missing at least one other crash but I've had a few cold one's tonite...not throwing my A game in the memory dept.

shortening the sprint stages would make for more chaos and danger---have you ever raced a crit? it would be similar. crits are fun, chaotic, dangerous. but great entertainment. shoving 140 riders on narrow roads with road furniture in place and 90 degree corners close to the finish line are recipes for dust ups. however as a spectator when you compare and contrast racing in europe and US at say the tour of california the contrast is stark with the width of the roads---on wide roads it just isnt nearly as appealing.

if the crashes are intriguing to you---go to a cyclocross race---you will get your fill.
