I love pick ups like this, you need development guys that can provide experience once they mature and occassionally those guys blow up.

This may be the answer to Cals culture problem, picking up transfers that know they work to do.

I bet he will be allowed to play this year. doesn't move our 4 spot out of unknown question mark we-see land, on that spot we got two taller freshman 4 stars, one 6'7 brooks, one 6'7 toppin' Can one of those guys really surprise us? I hope so. But… damn we need Harms.

Now that I look at it, I think he was only ranked as a 2* by 1 service (VC).
I just saw a story on SOB that says Toppin was a 3-star recruit in 2019 so not sure why 247 had him at zero. So he should be a good project player with potential. We see 3-star guys pop up all over the NCAA and become stars so I'm hopeful. It would be nice to see him as a Sr (If he sits out this year), Allen as a Sr and maybe Fletcher and even a few others to give us a veteran team down the road.

However, some seem to think the one-time transfer rule will go into effect for the 2020-2021 season. https://www.aseaofblue.com/2020/4/1...fer-ncaa-rules-kentucky-wildcats-recruit-news

If the rules goes into effect now, he will play this year I think. He should still be a multi year player though. The only sure fire 1 and dones we have coming in are Boston, Clarke and the grad transfers. Jackson could maybe play his way into it in 1 year. Most of the rest of these guys look like mutli year players. Hopefully it works out that they are.

I didn't realize there were so many Rhode Island fans/experts on this forum. Awful lot of people suddenly know a whole bunch about Toppin.

No idea how anyone can say he is going to be great based on his profile and results so far. But, I hope they are correct.

He's definitely a guy to have as a practice player this year so that's a big benefit.
Just can't do it can you.....good grief

No. He can't. And he's not going to change. Some people are just naturally melancholy. My wife, for instance. I consider it a good day when I get her to smile. A chuckle is a good month. Just accept it, or put them on ignore. I myself prefer a wider diversity of opinions. It's more entertaining.

Damn ok...lets see how this player develops.

Glad to have ya, Toppin!

We wanted a four year player and now we have one. Likely will not contribute a lot this coming year but perhaps with additional strength and coaching he can become a fan favorite

Or maybe, I can respond to him like I did.

I like this. If you are negative about this, you will never be happy unless we signed the #1-12 players in the same class and they all stayed 4 years and we won 4-straight titles.

We lost all our players this year, so people are mad about 1-and-done's or freshmen who aren't happy with playing time and transfer. This is a player who has experience and WANTS to play at Kentucky.

And don't knock Rhode Island. They had a 57 NET last year and the A-10 was rated the 8th best conference. This isn't like getting a player from a low mid-major team. I know he didn't have huge stats last year, but they are better than Johnny's or Kahlili's and his brother just happened to be the National Player of the Year.

Plus we don't ever give out all our scholarships, so why not. I see absolutely no negative here.

Don't win all games by forty plus points far Cal. (He makes too much...)

This is exactly the kind of guy you have to try and fill out the roster with.

He has the physical gifts to be able to play here. He realizes he has upside. He realizes that his time isn't right now. He knows what this platform and opportunity can do for him.

There aren't many guys like that.

If he's a more athletic Ramon Harris, that's great. If he's Obi Toppin? Woo boy.

I’ll be thrilled If he turns out to be Ramon 2.0. He was good enough for talent depth and that’s what we need.

Cal must be strongly considering using a 4 guard lineup at least part of the time. It is the only thing that makes sense the way he is bringing in so many 6'6" to 6'7" wing players.
Positionless basketball. Random offense.
