I didn't realize there were so many Rhode Island fans/experts on this forum. Awful lot of people suddenly know a whole bunch about Toppin.

No idea how anyone can say he is going to be great based on his profile and results so far. But, I hope they are correct.

He's definitely a guy to have as a practice player this year so that's a big benefit.
who said he was going to be great?

I think guys are being optimistic. I know that's an alien thought for you...

He averaged like 6 and 4 as a freshman in 30 games this year. He has a really solid body and most people think he is a bit of a late bloomer, sort of like Obi was. He has some skills, but is still raw.
I hope. Cal is usually pretty good at this stuff, but this is pretty far out there compared to the past. Toppin in 2019 using 247 had zero stars and was unranked. I never had checked on a guy for us and seen zero stars. Hopefully, he's more than a name. For sure looks like a role player and hopefully a 4-year guy. Maybe Cal throwing some stability in there with Allen for the future.

I'm pretty sure he was a 3star recruit. Not sure if that was just 1 ranking service, but it's been mentioned he was a 3star in a few articles I read.

Cal must be strongly considering using a 4 guard lineup at least part of the time. It is the only thing that makes sense the way he is bringing in so many 6'6" to 6'7" wing players.

I like this. If you are negative about this, you will never be happy unless we signed the #1-12 players in the same class and they all stayed 4 years and we won 4-straight titles.

We lost all our players this year, so people are mad about 1-and-done's or freshmen who aren't happy with playing time and transfer. This is a player who has experience and WANTS to play at Kentucky.

And don't knock Rhode Island. They had a 57 NET last year and the A-10 was rated the 8th best conference. This isn't like getting a player from a low mid-major team. I know he didn't have huge stats last year, but they are better than Johnny's or Kahlili's and his brother just happened to be the National Player of the Year.

Plus we don't ever give out all our scholarships, so why not. I see absolutely no negative here.

Cal might be smart to start going after transfers only. Sort of like Hoiberg did at Iowa State. And who thought Pitino was ahead of his time with the grand transfer one and dones? Gotta give him his due
Yep . Bet your bottom dollar the boys in Durham are in their war room trying to figure out what Cals next recruiting strategies are.
Kind of like how China rips the USA off at every chance.

We need bodies - this is a nice pick up to help build the roster
If he gets better and helps all the better
How can anyone knock this pick up?
It’s not like we need him next year but who knows he may be better than Ware Fletcher or Jackson
Nobody knows - I say good no risk pick up

This is exactly the kind of guy you have to try and fill out the roster with.

He has the physical gifts to be able to play here. He realizes he has upside. He realizes that his time isn't right now. He knows what this platform and opportunity can do for him.

There aren't many guys like that.

If he's a more athletic Ramon Harris, that's great. If he's Obi Toppin? Woo boy.

Wondered what would be his strength right now. Looks like not a bad defensive player. Good place to start. Dribbling and defense, and has a good frame. Biggest question is his determination and work ethic. With the body he has and some skill, if he has the right attitude he should make a good player.

Obi Toppin was a zero star recruit that went to a prep school for a year and redshirted before playing at Dayton last year. With Obi and Jacob close to the same height and being late bloomers, you know for a fact that that went into Cal's decision
