Are we headed for (4) super conferences of 16 teams each? If so, there are currently 65 P5 teams... who gets the axe?

Or are we more likely head to 5 or 6 super conferences so teams like ULL, Boise, App State, Memphis, UCF, San Diego State, Nevada, etc.... all get an invite?

Discuss amongst yourselves.

I expect that it will be less than 64 when all is said and done. I expect all SEC teams to be safe. I can’t say the same for the rest of the Power 5 schools. I expect football to be completely separate from everything else.

Schools like Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas State, Rutgers, Duke, Wake, etc., will not play football at the highest level.

1 Tier 3 conferences - PAC 12
1 Tier 4 conference - AAC
Mid-majors fighting for survival in FBS

If we have (4) super conferences of 16 teams, I see Kansas State, Iowa State or Texas Tech as the one getting left out. Maybe Rutgers gets the boot and they take Iowa State instead at the Big10.

KU and OkState definitely get a big10 invite to get them to 16. West Virginia gets an ACC invite to get them to 16. TTech and KState to Pac16? Fascinating to look at the possibilties.

And as I look at those possiblities... I could easily as a 5th or 6th super conference being created so no one gets left out and perennial great G5 programs get invited up too.

If OU and UT leave, dissovling the Big12... the Big10 and ACC will pick up remnants to get to 16... so they'd be on the same tier as SEC, imo

No doubt the Big 10, ACC and PAC-12 would take the viable remnants of the Big 12. But even so, that still wouldn't equal an SEC with Oklahoma & Texas. Joe Lee's Socks posted in another thread, this would give the SEC 7 of the 10 richest football programs in the country (currently SEC has 5, Big 10 has 3 and Big 12 has 2).

It’s over for schools like Southern Miss, La Tech, Nevada, UAB, Florida Atlantic, Coastal Carolina, etc. And that’s fine. We will become the equivalent of FCS.

The only G5 teams that have a prayer are the AAC teams, and even then only if the American gets aggressive with its own expansion. They need to add BYU and Boise State if they’re able, plus the cast-offs from the Big 12 and try to secure their own rights deal.

I think it's out of the realm of possibility. The only places they would go would either not make sense geographically (Big 10; Pac 12; ACC) or they would be trading security in exchange for a competitive advantage in an inferior conference cobbled together from leftover Big 12 teams.

I think the only reason we will end up with more than 4 super conferences is that blue bloods get nervous about not having enough whipping boys and gimmes.

That, and whoever is left without a seat is going to be financially devastated. I'm assuming that's going to be Iowa State or KSU. I think the Texas legislature will make sure no Texas teams get left out. Even though Baylor and TCU aren't public institutions, I think they will have enough stroke in the legislature to get taken care of. And while TTU, TCU, and Baylor aren't hugely valuable to any conference by themselves, getting all three of them and the texas market is probably as or more valuable than picking up ISU or KSU, so I think that will be part of the eventual deal.

It's also possible that the ACC picks up UCF instead of West Virginia and West Virginia gets left out in the cold. Or that conferences essentially offer up reverse bidding to get in for the ones that are interchangeable. What percentage of your payout will you forego over the next decade in order to not get left out? The optics of that would be terrible, but the incentives would be there.

Rutgers was the first team that popped in my head as the one that gets the axe. Them or Syracuse, but at least Syracuse has a deep basketball history.

Good. Then I say we poach an east coast team like Clemson or a Carolina school (Or even Free Shoes), and then the ACC can poach Maryland back from the BigX.

^This.^ And if the SEC screws around and lets Texas and OU end up in the Big 10, the SEC is tier 2 with the ACC fighting for scraps. Sometimes you have to buy a business you don't want just to keep a competitor from getting their hands on it.

I don't think the Big Ten is taking anybody that's not an AAU school. That list is here:

There's no way any conference is going to give up Rutgers and NY/NJ for Iowa State in freaking Ames, IA.

Yep. And Iowa State is a AAU member and the largest university in the state. Iowa State and KU would be my Big 12 invitees to the B1G.
