So with the possibility of football starting, who are the top teams because it’s been awhile for real football talk.

1-Warren (Returns from last yr and a lot of transfers)
2-Mount Carmel (Talent from last yrs team)
3-ESL (always loaded)
4- Loyola (So many helmets in program it’s hard to loose and Great Coach)
5-Main South ( every yr)
6-Brother rice ( looked good last yr with young talent)
7-Hersey ( quietly building a power house)
8-Nazareth ( always there, but lost a lot)
9-Phillips ( don’t know what they have)
10-Antioch ( if the kids play and don’t leave for Minnesota)

The fact you put Warren #1 after getting shutout in the title (LWE had a better D) is amusing. There are 4-6 teams better on paper then the Six Flags finest!

in no order: Marist, LWE, H-F, Niles ND, ESL, Mt Carmel.... the list goes on. I mean both Marist and LWE both have 6-8 D1 kids currently in rosters still. Warren is solid, but after watching them get completely out matched in the title game I’m not a buyer. Side note: HF was the 2nd best team in 8A last year.

Need to see what the schedules are and which duel sport athletes are doing which sports that conflict. I know MC has a few football starters that are also key baseball players and wrestlers.

Just occuring to me now that they are going to allow wrestling.

If it’s conference only and no State wrestling won’t be very appealing though
That's really sad for JCA's Dean Hamiti who is already a 3 time State Champ and was going for his 4th this year. How many wrestlers finish high school as 4 time state champs. Not very many, I would guess.

But he has won a couple National Championships this year wrestling in out of state tournaments.

I disagree. I think Warren was the #2 team in 8A last year. The offense left a lot to be desired, but that defense was as legit as I've seen. Also that title game was very competitive. If I remember correctly there was a late fumble that could've changed the whole game in their favor. I'll give you H-F maybe 3rd, but Ma

Warren didn’t beat LWE with their best and you think a few transfers has East worrying.
come on man! Get a grip.
Easy bro relax!!Both teams will be different from previous yr, that game was really close any way.

I’d keep any CPS team out of any top 10...25....50.....they aren’t even allowing low risk to practice let alone play.

Hersey and Antioch seem like stretches. Going to guess Batavia, Cary Grove or Prairie Ridge, Hinsdale Central or Glenbard West, Montini or JCA would bump them out. Occasional you have those teams with a random run to the top ten but it is rare. Usually HF, Bolingbrook and Phillips have too much talent to ignore. Assume leaving LWE out was an accident.

Agreed, I am not sure I see CPS playing which is a shame for those kids and coaches. Top teams usually have some changes as the season goes on and this year will see some changes depending on who actually plays this spring. I can see some kids sit out for whatever various reasons. And as was mentioned if wrestling happens at the same time could we see some kids choose to wrestle? Either way, it’s exciting to be talking about the possibility of actual football games.

The smaller schools are going to be really interesting. ICE, for example, has some schools which have unusual things at play...Wilmington, for example, was looking at one of its best hoops seasons in years this winter. Does a truly potentially memorable hoops season render the Wildcats football season less important, particularly if there are no playoffs? The stud wing, Trey Shaw, is a possible 20 ppg scorer in hoops (instead of a potential state champ at 160-171-182). Manteno, on the other hand, has very low hoops expectations this year. But their left tackle is already at Illinois, and their #1 receiver has a baseball ride to Bradley which could make him shy to play at this point.

Football is going to start like the second week of basketball. Who knows if wrestling is going now or sticking in May. Will there be regions where they don't hit Phase 4 for a couple more weeks, in effect wiping out basketball? Will there be schools with historically bad football programs where the kids say "Nah, not going to bother..." How many kids got jobs and bought cars, so they can't quit the job and still pay their car insurance? How will football and planting crops intersect?

Not sure exactly what Hersey has coming back, but they averaged 48 (not a typo) points through 10 games before Lake Zurich pinned a 14-7 loss on them in Round 2 of 7A.

Warren has two D1 level RB's , 2 next level QB's, mutiple WR's , and returning OL. Warren defense will be faster and just as physical as last year with multiple next level D1 players at all levels. With covid ... Warren has depth. Warren will be very tough. It looks like no playoffs this year. This spring is about getting kids film for college and setting teams up for next fall. Warren is loaded with 2022 & 2023 kids. Stay tuned. Folks hate it but Warren is back. Home of six flags 👀🏈🎢

Not sure I would say a powerhouse. Hersey has won a single playoff game in each of the last two seasons.

What do you think the 2021 kids with committed scholarship offers do that have not enrolled early already will do? Be weird to be in school and not playing with your buds but I can also see why some kids might choose to sit it out and get ready for their next challenge.

I believe it has been done 14 times.
It’s a shame he doesn’t get the opportunity to attempt to become #15

Absolutely you play, around the Catholic League I haven’t heard of any seniors that are committed that plan on sitting it out....unless they enrolled in College early or bolted to other States to play in the fall. Listen these guys aren’t skipping the Bowl Game because they are afraid to get hurt before the NFL draft. HIGH majority of these players will be redshirted or buried deep on the depth charts. If they are in the immediate plans, the coaches will let them know.....if they don’t the next time they see the field maybe 2022, that’s two full seasons with no playing time. They’ll play. If they are afraid of getting hurt then don’t play this game.

Only reason I see them skipping is if the season is scheduled to go from May thru June, which I don’t think will happen. Fingers crossed

Maybe not Naz if they are still around but most of those kids left. Probably red shirting anyways so why not play? You would be doing spring ball if on campus. I think most play

Don't know Shaw from Adam, but what are you basing the state champ comment off of? If Hawkins never took the top of the podium I doubt Shaw would. Has he even wrestled before?

All the kids Nazareth still has are DAWGS [in the best sense] and so I am excited to watch them scrap. The secondary and WR corps is going to be exciting. Front seven will be strong also because Tim Racki.

QB is solid on tape, but we've yet to see him in Navy blue so who knows. Line has some potential but that's terrifying. IDK who is manning the backfield but if it's a rotation with Taylor I know there will be elite speed and wiggle

Top 20 team for sure

I think the real question is, who is going to play? National signing day has come and gone - many of the kids who have signed would be in weight and work out training for college by the time the season ends. Is the risk worth a reward that may not include an actual state game?

What do you think about Odeluga? He’s going to Penn and I watched a few of their games in 2019 and it seems like he could see the field pretty early on at Penn. I’d love to see him play if there is a season but if he can possibly see the field in the fall at Penn I’m not sure it would be advised.

I'd truly be stunned if he sat it out....I can't say it for sure, but its just not in his character. He's not going to Penn hoping to leave a NFL Draft pick, he's going for the Degree. He's stronger and faster now with a chip on his shoulder, he's going to be dangerous. Some Big Ten teams really dropped the ball on him. I don't see how Northwestern, Illinois or Purdue couldn't have benefited greatly from having a kid of his caliber on their team.

Just my opinion and this topic was just speculation about the top teams, I believe with the lose of AJ and soph class coming up didn’t have the best season last yr, in my opinion they won’t be in top 10.

Good points about having East down the list some. However, their depth, tradition and staff stability in an upcoming season of personnel uncertainties may better allow their team to absorb players not coming out for various reasons compared to some other programs?
