I started ranking the recruits now that most are signed. Here's my top 6 so far. Betts will probably fit in at #4 when he signs. Lots of depth in this class, and plenty of players in the second 6 I considered might belong to the first 6. In fact, since I'm not an expert it's a near-certainty that I'm underrating some of our best players. But experts get it wrong as well, so I have no problem sharing my list.

IMO, the top 3 really separate from the rest. I hope many others in this class develop into NFL talent, but it just seems like I'm looking at future pros for the first 3.

1. Omar Manning - Just an obvious difference maker.
2. Keyshawne Green - Tremendous acceleration to the runner
3. Turner Corcoran - Big and light on his feet.
4. Marquis Black - Played great against excellent competition. Big body, quick.
5. William Nixon - Running back highlights mostly. Really smooth.
6. Blaise Gunnerson - Big framed, quick, aggressive. May be better as a lineman than in space as a LB.

I haven't watched film on all of them, but here are my impressions.

Corcoran - highest rated, have him for all 4 years. When we win big, it'll be because of guys like him on the line, not the skill positions.
Manning - ready to go at a huge position of need. Can fill Stan's role no problem.
Scott - Just a beast. Will play next year.
Gray - Leadership and can really play.
Green - The biggest pickup this past week at a huge position of need.
Betts - Instate guys this talented don't come around often. He was a must get and I think he'll be there in the fall.

Honorable Mention: Francois - Kid can play anywhere in the secondary.

I’ll give it a shot:

1. Manning- Fills a huge need. Will start and make us better day 1.

2. Corcoran- Big time get. Will anchor the OL for years.

3. Hutmacher- NT’s are hard to find and he is a beast.

4. Greene- Amazing athlete. We haven’t had this kind of athlete at LB for a while (Lavonte?)

5. Scott III- An absolute specimen, wont need a year to mature and get stronger, can play now. I bet he will be our #2 back next year.

6. Delancy- A lot to like with all our DB’s, but I really like Delancy. Physical, fast, tough.

I really like Nixon. I know there is another thread, but I think he is a steal and will light it up eventually, but I like your list. Manning and Cocoran are huge. Two or the biggest needs in my opinion.

  • Cocoran if he can start right away will be the biggest and best
  • Any one of these fellas that can disrupt the pocket or edge
  • Manning/any WR that can contribute
  • Green and the Juco ILB
  • Scott 3 could end up being our bell cow
  • Logan Smothers - he looks the part and I believe we'll need a runner long term that can execute and make good decisions

how do you pick guys? Man I like this class. Coupled with last year's class, this sets up very nicely IMO for a good team in the 2022 to 2024 time frame. Now we have to develop them.

The last spot or two were tough: I agree, Nixon could be really good. I also really like Francois, Gunnerson, Mauga. Plus, I think Brown is physically ready to play now and Butler might have as much upside as anyone in the class.

It's very refreshing that it is really hard to narrow down who is even in the Top 10. Everyone will have their opinion and we will see how it shakes out, but this looks like a pretty damn strong class. Let's hope we can develop these dudes.

I was thinking just yesterday, @dinglefritz , that the way our schedule lines up, I think 2022 is the year we make our first run at the Playoff.

2020 - Is very manageable until the last 5 games, and we may lose all 5 of them. Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota. And we play Ohio State, Iowa, and Wisconsin on the road. Woof. I would say getting to a bowl game next year is the biggest task at hand. If we hit 7 wins I will be very happy.

2021 - Other than playing Illinois in Ireland and then Buffalo after a weird early bye week, this schedule is rough. MSU, Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin...oh, AND Oklahoma. IN NORMAN. Getting 8 wins out of this season is a very, very big deal to me.

2022 - The schedule gets FAR easier. We play Oklahoma in Lincoln, and we draw Michigan, Rutgers, and Indiana from the East. That's it. Considering the development and talent, this is the year we should start out ranked and stay that way through the season. This, to me, is the earliest year we make a run at the playoff/Big Ten Championship.

1) has to Omar Manning. Dude will be an instant upgrade on the outside and a big body WR we needed bad last year and he’s an obvious NFL talent. I’m only going Manning over Betts because Manning is already Power 5 ready body size wise at 220 pounds. Betts maybe 200 pounds at best at the moment.

2) I’m going with Zavier Betts. He was dam near a 5 star for a reason and has the square all the other elite WRs in the country had. Once he gets here, he will give us another 6’3 and up big WR with elite skills. I’m already drooling over this lineup...WR O Manning, WR JD Speilman, WR Wandale Robinson, and WR Z Betts and D Mills/R Johnson at RB...good luck BIG 10 DBs...you’ll need it. ;)

3) KeShawn Greene. He’s an elite LB that’s lightening fast. Something we have needed since LaVonte David went pro and this is the guy.

4) Turner Corcoran. He’s dam near a 5 star OLineman and we all know we need linemen like this in a bad way. He could play as early as a RS freshman.

5) 4 star LB Mauga. We need a face lift at LB in a bad way and what better then a 4 star JUCO LB that’s fast, plays in the opponents back fields and helps us instantly in a position of need?

there are plenty of other guys we all could have gone with and made good points with. The guys I listed are guys i think can come in and play soon and help us on a HUGE way. GBR

This is my take after watching film on all the guys and where I think they might fit in and how soon they can play. A couple of these guys have good highlights as kick returners as well (3 or 4 from what I remember).

Could contribute Day 1 (ST, limited roles, possible starters)
  • Omar Manning - WR1 (big, fast, outside thread, loves to block).
  • Jordon Riley - SDE (listed as a DT, but seem more like a SDE to me. Think Davis twins).
  • P. Payne - SDE (I expect some competition at SDE and either Payne or Riley to hopefully contribute)
  • Eteva Mauga - OLB (seems like a pass rushing specialist)
  • Henry Gray - DB (seems more a safety fit. Really loves to hit)
  • Keyshawn Greene - ILB (this guy seems really fast. Probably needs the weight room and such first, but could see him on ST).
Needs Work or Behind Better Players
  • Niko Cooper - WDE (needs more size but seems too big for OLB?). Maybe they play him at OLB for now.
  • Marvin Scott III - RB (think Oz or Mills). I think he becomes more of a power back. He likes to run over people, doesn't avoid contact. Looks ready to go right now except for his size.
  • Sevion Morrison - RB (Mo type). Needs meat on his bones.
  • Will Nixon - Slot WR. Seems like a JD type. Catches in traffic over the middle. Seems faster than JD.
  • Marcus Fleming - WR2 (smaller, faster guy that plays on the outside).
  • Zavier Betts - WR1 (big/fast/outside). I just think Omar looks more ready. Betts tape isn't that great from a competition standpoint. I've watched him person as well. Huge talent and potential but takes a lot of plays off. Players give him a 10+ yd I'm more wait and see if he steps up and responds to the competition.
  • Jaiden Francois - DB (seems like a nickle/slot guy, doesn't avoid contact). He seems to be able to play all over the defensive backfield.
Project Players, Need Development or Behind on the Depth Chart
  • Logan Smothers - QB. Man, this guy looks an absolute stud out there. He just seems small. He is probably sitting behind 3 QBs next year.
  • Ronald Delancy III - DB. I really like this guy. He plays just about every DB position out there and looked good on all of them. Needs to grow a bit.
  • Tamon Lynum - CB. Maybe he sees the field? Really nice tackles. Size and development again.
  • Alante Brown - Duck-R. Think Wan'dale kind of player. RB/WR, motion, etc. Swing passes, jet sweeps, etc. Small though.
  • Isaac Gifford - JoJo Role (Safety/OLB/Nickle). Needs a year or two to develop.
  • Jimar Butler - WDE/OLB? Seems like a project player. Nice frame but not much weight.
  • Blaise Gunnerson - WDE. Seems like a nice pass rusher. Needs the weight room.
  • Marquis Black - DT. Lift lift lift.
  • Nash Hutmacher - DT. Although most of his highlights are as a LT, I think given his frame and weight, he is a DT. He doesn't seem all that fast to play offensive line. Black seems more ready to play right now than Hut.
  • Turner Corcoran - LT. Man he looks good. Keeps his blocks going. Strong looking kid. Just needs S&C.
  • Alex Conn - LT. Seems smaller than Corcoran and not quite as good but still a great get.

sounds logical to me. Starting with OU won't be easy as long as Lincoln Riley sticks around there. Michigan will be very talented as usual. Getting to the CFP even IF you have a great team, is a very very long shot. You have to get some lucky bounces along the way.....or kicks off of a WR's foot for a freshman WR to catch.Winking People were so spoiled by TO and fail to recognize how lucky you have to get. When you get unlucky, you have half of your starters get the flu and lose to Texas in the conference championship game.:(
