My guess is that you are probably right, especially since you narrowed it down somewhat by saying "Top 20," rather than Top 25.

Top 20? Too lazy to figure it out. But ESPN has records vs AP top 25 so I will take a look at that:

Marquette 6-6

Purdue 5-1
Texas Tech 5-3
Alabama 5-3
Villanova 5-4

Providence 4-0
Rutgers 4-1
Gonzaga 4-2
Kansas 4-3
Wisconsin 4-3
Iowa State 4-5
Oklahoma 4-6

4 top-16 wins in a row - has it ever happened outside the NCAA tourney in college basketball history?

When thinking about the NCAA Tournament, you would think the committee would look at some of the early season losses as outliers to what has become a very good team. Does a loss to Lafayette negate multiple top 25 wins? This team has a very interesting resume and if later season form is a factor, we should have a good shot.

The significant passage of time since those losses and the obvious team development should be a factor, along with Geo’s absence for most of RU’s bad losses. But, who knows what the Committee will do. They seem too enamored with the computers, which do not really account for such factors.
