The problem is the players can't make shots regardless if its layups or three pointers.Too many complementary type players with the same weakness.

Seton Hall shooting worse than Rutgers %. The problem is they have a lot more shots, and we have 10 TOs.

I commented on another thread that immediately after our game, FS1 broadcast “Hoosiers” staring Gene Hackman. The entire team should watch that movie including the coaches. Some good scenes about passing and setting up plays. Probably the best basketball movie ever.

The reason that hundreds of NCAA teams have shot better than RU each year for several years is not Geo or a narrative, whatever the use of that word is supposed to mean. It’s not a hard problem to solve. We don’t have good shooters.

This is very true but the type of shots you're attempting (degree of difficulty, etc) matters and doesn't help.

Our entire offense is what my Rutgers roommate and I call the "Bus Play".
We coined it during the Douby years when we were students.
Everyone stands around waiting for a bus while 1 guy has ball.

It's not a Geo thing like some want to say.

Perfect example is RHJ last night.
RHJ gets the ball in the 2nd half and backs down on the right side, does a drop step and banks in a short fadeaway.
Next time he gets the ball - does the exact same move and gets it blocked.

It happened right in front of us (was at the game with my RU roommate) and we both called it happening as soon as RHJ got the ball.

We could also call our offense the "Titanic".
Whenever anyone as the ball - the other 4 just aimlessly meander around the court - shuffling deck chairs on the Titantic.

There is no cutting - other than the one play with RHJ-Caleb in the 1st half.
I didn't see a single real off-ball screen to open up a open shooter.
Any off-ball screens "attempted" are lazy by both the screener and the player receiving the screen.
They both just meander away from each other after - no hard screen or quick flashing to the ball.

Have to give a little credit to shu here and I think we will see a lot of this. Their guards pressured our guards to the point where we couldn’t even get into our offense. Pretty obvious but we need better ball handlers in the future.

Our one on one play is VERY highly correlated with the pressure our opponents put on our perimeter players. When the defense is long and plays close to our guards it makes it much harder to get in to our sets.

They definitely blanketed our guards. They had zero respect for paying the price for doing so. Our guards couldn’t get near the rim. Completely shut down.

Seton Hall spreads the court and has players weave aroune the court with passes or dribble drives to the basket. Those same players can also shoot off the dribble making ten foot jump shots. In contrast Rutgers doesn't have players with comparable skill set.

It happens when Geo is on the court.

When Geo is on the bench Pike actually has them running an offense.
Walks the ball up the court then dribble, dribble, dribble then try to beat his man, if he can't, which is more often than not, try to pass the ball. Time has burned off the clock & any offensive rhythm has been lost. Move the ball, move the ball. Keep him on the bench. It's not as if he hits 6 out of 7 & scores 30. Needs to be on the bench.
