If ever there was a lucky injury, his concussion was it. That AVM would be a killer, bleeding which would be uncontrollable because the source of the bleed can't be easily clamped (the brain is an unforgiving organ for any trauma, like clamping or pushing; and the AVM seems to have no beginning or end so the starting vessel is hard to find; and the brain's response to injury is to swell but is limited by the bony house it's encased in).
