There is a great article on him on DBR.Imo the best on ball defender we have ever had in the backcourt.He and Dawkins were so good that Dean would not let his guards even bring the ball up court after a made basket

Tommy was under rated and under appreciated in my opinion. Dawkins and Alairie may have been the the high performance muscle cars but Tommy drove it. He made them so much better after he came to Duke. OFC
Yeah, Amaker was a heck of a player, but with Duke players like Hurley, and J Williams coming through the program, he's taken a bit of backseat when point guards are brought up. He was plenty good enough to ride in the front seat.

That is really hard to believe but then again I was in my 30's when he played.
Amaker and Dawkins were the best on the ball perimeter defenders I ever saw at Duke.
J-Will and Duhon were very close. But, overall, I'd put Amaker and Dawkins above them. They were such great ball hawks.

I was 9 years old Dawkins’ final year at Duke in 1986 and I was 10 years old Amaker’s final year at Duke in 1987. That’s about the time I became a Duke fan.
