IMHO our "HOF" is a tad on the liberal side, however, the fact that Carli isn't it yet is absurd. She "rubbed" the wrong people, the wrong way, with the prior administration. Time for both sides to move on IMHO.

Supposedly , she has no relationship with the school

"It's good to see the Rutgers crew is doing well and representing well," Lloyd said at her soccer camp Saturday in Medford.

Lloyd said she keeps in regular contact with both Trout and Frazier and recalled just texting Frazier, a Toms River native, last week to congratulate the Reds' third baseman on his performance in the derby.

"I've buzzed with Todd Frazier and he sent me a message to congratulate me and I just sent him a message because he's killing it and doing really well," Lloyd said.

http://www.nj.com/soccer-news/index...d_proud_of_fellow_nj_sports_stars_and_ru.html

Maybe she has no relationship with the admin but she does not seem to hold any animus towards the university itself.

FWIW in the early 80's I recall Lucci in the SL as our Politi of the day. He was whinney and negative and Rutgers rarely did right in his eyes. When RU hired him I was a bit skeptical since my recollection of him was that he was a Debbie Downer. With that being said I was pleased to see a more supportive Lucci as an Athletics employee. But alas his "yeah but" personality, which seems popular in sports media, is probably still there. It doesn't make him a bad guy but it can be tiresome to be around. I wish him well but I don't expect glowing support of RU in whatever he ends up doing. I hope I'm wrong.

The majority of the posters here have no idea as to who Tom Luicci is and what his feelings are for Rutgers. Those who know Tom well will tell you how much he loves the school. His question regarding Carli was a,very fair one. In fact Julie had get penciled in as a Hall of Famer last year but she was unable to attend the event and it was thought better to hold her over until this year. I guess whoever was involved in the selection process this year didn't get it done. To me she is a no brainer right now. Why the wait?

Aldo just a side note regarding Luicci's wife.....she was inducted as a Rutgers Loyal Son/Daughter recently and I know how proud Tom was of that selection.

Of course he has the right to say whatever he wants, but clearly his objective here was to take a shot at RU for not inducting Lloyd now.

And the PSU retreat is because..... ?

And Tom Carville is married to Mary Matalin. So what. Luicci's body of work speaks for itself. Clearly, some of you confuse snarky negativity for objectivity and that is his and your right. Really courageous stance to take when RU was such an easy mark. For a guy who loves RU as much as you profess he does, his words speak a lot louder than his actions. Next time you see the loving couple, tell his wife how much we appreciate her service to RU.

I've always wondered the relationship between her and the school. She seems to never make any mention or publicize her days at RU.

I saw a two part online interview with her. There were references to her playing at RU. At one point she's in Delran standing in front of a sign that says "Peter Vermes Park". She talked about practicing there, that Peter played for the USNT in the World Cup, and how she ended up following him to RU.

I just don't think Carli is a warm and fuzzy person who has a fondness for the past. She's totally focused on what's ahead.

Tom is a private citizen who is an alum like all of us...doesnt work for Rutgers or the media..why cant he have an opinion like the rest of us bozos

Of course, he is entitled to an opinion. That opinion makes him a troll, which is his natural inclination. We, as loyal sons, are entitled to call him out as a troll. That simple, really.

Luicci was more than just a reporter, he was the Targum Sports Editor, the only 2 time editor . I don't get some alums, first you try to kill Luicci's RU rep, now Carli Lloyd. Who's next, Brian Leonard? Khas Greene?

Was it Bob Mulcahy who said "only in NJ, where they eat their own" ?

Yikes, some loyal sons.

Was this directed toward me? You replied to my post.

"Kill Luicci's RU rep"? By not knowing he was 2 time Targum editor? I postulated that Rutgers rising popularity in the late 70s may have helped Luicci get into professional sportswriting at the S-L.

How is that killing Luicci's RU rep? This whole thread exists because TL is very publicly divesting himself of everything Rutgers.. "its time". He is killing his RU rep more than anyone here.

If you mean how Luicci has treated Rutgers in his reporting.. I have a lifetime of reading his stuff and while he is head and shoulders above Politi, many here know he had been rough on Rutgers many times.

I'll go further... I think he was made to defend his lama mater in that S-L office and was ribbed mercilessly when Rutgers stumbled.. which was often. I think he tried to prove his objectivity by being overly harsh at times and presenting Rutgers in a bad light even when he did not have to... and maybe he was just a little human and showed his disappointment with Rutgers through his stories. Maybe someone who was not a 2 time Targum sports editor could have been more detached.

An infamous example of this kind of treatment of Rutgers followed a 1-11 season in 2002. In the special preview section the following August, Luicci authored a piece going over every single game of that 2002 season in excruciating detail. Why? And one time on signing day he authored a poison pen piece, iirc... many people got pissed at the S-L that day.

Now that might have been an assignment of the S-L editors.. maybe they assigned it, maybe they just re-edited stuff he had authored at the time of those games. And if you credit the S-L editors with the awful choices of story titles, lead paragraphs, photograph choices and captions.. then TL might have been in a no-win situation and not have been responsible for some of the worst Rutgers coverage that was associated with his name.

As for Carli Lloyd.. I certainly said nothing negative about her and agree with you criticizing those that had made those inane comments above.

Hey.. how about this thought on Mr. Luicci's Lloyd tweet: Any mention of Carli Lloyd and Rutgers HELPS RUTGERS.

Am I forgiven?

If that were the case ( your penultimate paragraph) and Luicci really loved RU and/ or had any journalistic integrity, he would have resigned his position at the SL. Obviously, neither is the case.

So, as someone said, since Luicci tagged Carli Lloyd's name, it gets visibility. Alexi Lalas has a big Twitter following and so he responded to Luicci's tweet with surprise which inevitably led to someone continuing the Rutgers athletics doesn't know what they're doing response, blah, blah, blah. Couple of other people set things straight though responding that she's already in the Hall of Distinguished Alumni, will be selected after she retires obviously, and that Luicci "has gone off the deep end". Luicci's trying to be subtle about but he's trolling nonetheless. Pretty embarrassing frankly. Exhibit Z on how nothing positive can come from tweeting.

If people think he's not trolling, check how a few weeks after Pikiell was named RU coach he retweeted an article about 2 Stony Brook players getting arrested for robbing someone under the guise of acknowledging the reporting of some writer he knew or something. Luicci's tweeting was extremely infrequent at that time but he felt the need to publicize that in some sorry attempt to undermine the new coach. Sad!

I don't know what the situation is now, but Lloyd definitely did back in 2013 (see link). It was an interesting dynamic meeting the two of them. Lalas is as gregarious as they come. He can talk your ear off. Lloyd is just the opposite... farouche, but respectful to all the fans eager to get her autograph and/or have a photo taken with her.

Farouche??? Speaking of Piscataway Mike, was thinking of him (you) during the first Luicci thread. Mike you may have been in AC at the National Sportscard Convention-but that was my point.

I thought in my mind about Lucci comment about "moving on" I thought about Mike/brother? in the sense that they have a smaller than most comfortable ranch but an extra room since their fun Mom (RIP-never thought I'd see Neil Diamond, Fleetwood Mac or Conan O'Brien with an 80+ year old) passed. They even took in some of my stuff re "foreclosure" and aftermath (though at glance don't know where some of the stuff may be).

Mike's idea of "moving on" (demonstrated during a segment in the 1st B1G equivalent of "Pawn Stars )is to sell some of his Rutgers collection off while looking for new. Just as Liucci was seling off his stuff Mike and brother were in AC at "The National" just as much if not more looking for RU memorabilia than cards. Liucci's words and actions at best expect frustration at best (kind of like the ticklet office rejectging my ticket payment fro np reason-twice) and at worst bitterness.

The tweet, just read on its own, is probably not worthy of a multi-page thread. Many of us have been reading his material for decades though. After reading hundreds of his pieces, we've all formed opinions on his writing persona.

I know @rutgersal well in real life. He's a great guy and a hardcore (but normal) fan like the rest of us. He clearly has a distinct online persona that many of you have been reading for years.

Does it matter what some stranger feels in real life among a small circle of friends, if what he projects to the masses is something completely different? If Al didn't like RU, would it matter? If TL loves the school in private, does it matter?

In private, LBJ was a racist who said n****** regularly. Yet publicly he did more for civil rights than arguably anyone else in the last 150 years. The private stuff is meaningless.

I do think TL did a great job once we hired him though. As far as I can remember, Julie's gaffes and the leaks in the department stopped immediately.

Back to the OP. Not sure how people are reading that specific tweet as a negative.

My thinking on this is that they will wait for Carli's Professional Career to end before induction. Brian Leonard recently retired which makes sense as to his induction.

What does there always have to be a controversy and a hatred toward people. Specifically people who are loyal sons like Tom Luicci is and will continue to be.

A few years ago I had the pleasure of attending the banquet (when it was the Olympic Sports Hall of Fame), as my coworker was being inducted and he needed to fill seats at his table.

I think Luicci & you guys are overblowing what this is. It's not Cooperstown with the teary stories about how the little boy got to achieve his dreams. It's to honor former players for the glory they brought to Rutgers, have some laughs with their old coaches & teammates, & for them to talk about what they've been doing since those days on the banks.

Clearly, Carli wasn't able to attend the ceremony. It's a pretty useless honor if she can't be there to accept the award in person. When she's able to attend, she will get the award.

Yeah, loyal son. Of all the good press Hobbs has received for his hire of Ash and Pikiell this is the only Ash (i.e Hobbs related) thing Luicci chooses to retweet all year. The lone tweet on the current regime for hoops was the Stony Brook gem above.

She didn't have many public gaffes because she wouldn't talk to anybody and hid from the press and the public. He didn't do her any favors if that was the strategy and he was the architect. It certainly didn't do anything to endear her to the fanbase or the media. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but sticking her in the attic and hiding her away like some crazy aunt did her more damage at least in my eyes.

And in what context should she mention Rutgers? So "does not care" because she doesn't come up with some lame context to mention Rutgers? Message boards really are the work of the devil ...
