I hadn't thought about it, but it would be a good thing to measure former head coaches' success in one-score games. For the record, Herman was 5-3 at UH and 14-13 in UT.I’d be happy with this hire.
7-3 his last year at Texas. 3 losses were very close too : lost by 2 to TCU, lost by 8 to OU in 4 OT, and lost by 3 to Iowa State
He also won two games in OT and another against WVU by 4 in that last year at Texas

Herman was 54-22 as a HC. 6 winning seasons (5-0 in Bowl Games), 4 Top-25 seasons, 2 Top 10 seasons and 2 Top 5 recruiting classes. Pretty solid resume to me.
He would be able to keep the good offensive players and attract a big time portal QB. Could keep Chin as DC, which should keep the best players on that side of the ball. Or if he get a better one, even better.
He also had Ezekiel Elliot. No **** he ran the ball a lot.He ran the ball a lot as an OC at OSU then let Beck pass too much. If he learned from that I would be OK with it
With the resources and in-state talent Texas has, Texas (with a good HC) should be able to win conference championships regularly, especially in the Big 12. This gives me pause on Herman...
I thought our philosophy here was that 4 years is enough time to get your own players for your system to work as intended...Even thought it is Texas and they have alot of resources. He followed a guy that was 16-21 and recruited in the 20's.
Are you suggesting he wouldn't be able to recruit a running back to Lincoln? Because he had Elliot as a starter his last season as OC there and averaged more yards a game rushing (300) the year (2013) he wasn't a starter. Averaged 46 rushes to 26 passes. He averaged 46 rushes a game every year the three years he was OC for Meyer. Things changed when he hired Beck as OC at Texas. He also had Ezekiel Elliot. No **** he ran the ball a lot.
This is an idiotic take. He was 7-3 during a Covid year and he was finally getting the offense humming along. Texas was stupid to fire him and replace him with a drunkard who failed everywhere else as a head coach. Florida is stupid for wanting to fire Dan Mullen. These decisions are about on par with Nebraska firing 9 or 10 win head coaches and replacing them with Callahan and Riley.I thought our philosophy here was that 4 years is enough time to get your own players for your system to work as intended...
Tom Herman had 3 top 5 recruiting classes while he was there. This is great....But that level of talent didn't translate to the kind of team Texas was looking for (obviously). Granted, we know it isn't just about player talent. Coaching matters also.
I agree Beck was a huge mistake, but I don't think it's just because he passes the ball. If you don't have a running back like Elliot, running the ball that much is going to be a lot less effective. Texas had nowhere near the caliber of talent at RB or the ability to achieve anywhere near as effective a running game as Ohio State had in that national title season. Are you suggesting he wouldn't be able to recruit a running back to Lincoln? So its the staff before him, and Covid for his inability to win a conference championship at a school with top resources and talent. Got it.This is an idiotic take. They were pretty darn good last year. I thought UT made a mistake letting him go and hiring Sark.I thought our philosophy here was that 4 years is enough time to get your own players for your system to work as intended...

Sark was clearly a bad hire for them. Texas realistically should be able to draw a better quality coach. and in hindsight, giving Herman more time there would have been a better play than hiring Sark. That's not even the debate though...They were pretty darn good last year. I thought UT made a mistake letting him go and hiring Sark.

What's the debate then? Sure every school wants to hire Nick Saban, but that's not particularly realistic, is it?Sark was clearly a bad hire for them. To be effective enough to win a national title, you do.I don't think you necessarily need that caliber of RB to run that much
That shouldn't be a first year goal.To be effective enough to win a national title, you do.
