They should have fired Mike Riley after the Minnesota game. Many called for it. Now look at the mess we are in today. Getting kicked in the mouth by Iowa. Such an embarrassment.

We would have still lost this game but maybe with someone different the effort would have been a little better. I mean look at this mess of a game. Big time programs would not put up with this BS.

I thought we hated the fiery coaches at this point? Went from bland to NFL shiny, to schizo-angry to calm & quiet beyond reason. Change before the season end would produce nothing and show no class on NU's part, especially to a guy as well liked among his peers as MR. We got time to do it right, and I would think with SF as our #1 target, we really need to do EVERYTHING right.

Would have made zero difference.

The fact that there are zero coaches on staff that could have even served as a serviceable interim is quite telling about Riley’s ability to attract decent assistants.
Before this year I would agree, but with the early signing date, it’s better to fire Riley before the season is over so recruits know where you stand. That way they can move on or stay committed. It’s better to get ahead of the game.

Firing a coach with a chance to go to a third straight bowl game would leave the players think that the administration had caused all of their problems. The players know who is responsible for that mess and will now accept the next staff with open arms. Firing people midseason looks like an adolescent childish move, not something a deep thinking, strategic AD would do.

Yep. Starting with his first presser, Moos has exhibited professionalism, experience, and lots of confidence. Hoping he can seal the deal.

Why would that make a difference? Does it really matter if they move on in October or move on in December? At best there is a chance that these recruits might stay if they see who the coach is.

I would say the very best scenario is that we reduce the gap between the Riley firing and the new coach hiring to as little as possible. I have been anti-Riley since his hire but there was zero to be gained by getting rid of him earlier than the end of the season and potentially some gain by keeping him till the end of the season . It seems many fans want to rush this process.
