It does in this case. Epstein was committing crimes and potentially participating in blackmail of politicians so his donation activity is relevant. Donald Trump was not committing crimes at all so there is no reason to cast additional scrutiny on his political donations.

I think that:
1. The most salacious, dark, and criminal stuff is in the Epstein files remains to be released. It is likely SO damning that Trump will never willingly allow it to be released, because it will end his political career and possibly result in his being prosecuted.
2. Because Trump will never willingly release the remaining portion of the Epstein files (which is apparently the remaining 3 million files, now that the first 3 million have been released, albeit in heavily redacted form), we have to hope that either the DOJ (i.e., Trump) can be forced to release the remaining half or (what seems more likely to me), other people who copied and still retain some of the unreleased and damning materials commence to leak them to the public. I believe THAT is what Trump is most concerned about at this point. But he's not too bright, and only knows one direction (forward), so he will continue to maintain that the release of the Epstein files that has occurred to date has "completely exonerated" him while at the same time demonstrated the evil nature of the Democrats.
3. The pedophiles who gave money to Epstein and had sex with underage females surely includes a bunch of prominent guys from both sides of the aisle. I don't give a damn. Expose and punish ALL of them. That being said, I think it is ludicrous to assume that Trump (whose name was mentioned over 5,300 times in the materials released thus far) is somehow innocent. There is a presumption of innocence in criminal prosecutions, to be sure, but let's see all of the evidence, and let's depose all of the victims who have said they are willing to come forward and testify to their interactions with Epstein and his clients. And let's start looking for buried remains at Zorro Ranch, wherever the hell that is. New Mexico?
