Even if it’s not GS, I know the the next coach will be a name everyone would get behind.
Whoever it is, we are several years away from game day coaching acumen being a factor.

Are you thinking it might not be GS?

Do you really believe that? I see teams at a huge talent disadvantage win almost every single Saturday. That has NEVER been Rutgers, because we have never had a coach who could outscheme anyone.

It never happens at Rutgers because no one will give credit when it happens.

The idea by some people that a Schiano hire should be announced today is just another sign the cult of personality has gone off the deep end.

It is the 150th anniversary of the first college football game, a huge, big picture story involving Rutgers.

You don't take away from the historical event by announcing a "now" thing like a coaching hire the same day, even if they are bringing your Messiah back.

That's your opinion. Although Schiano might be preferred by a majority of the fan base, it is only a vocal minority who believe it is Schiano or bust.

Do you really think it is only a vocal minority?

Out of curiosity and respect, who do you see as a viable exciting option to rebuild this program?

You might, if you realized that you didn't organize a ceremony and event that properly recognizes and celebrates that historical event, and you think hiring a celebrated coach could gloss that over.

While what you say is true you'll see far, far more teams with talent stacked to the ceiling win week after week based purely on depth of talent with a pimple head running the show.

Not sure who posted that tweet, but the Penn State game in the video clip was after Schiano departed.

Consider this if you will. You DO announce it on this day because you are celebrating not only the end of 150 years of up and down FB but also the beginning of a New and Better ERA.

Absent bringing in a guy like Stoops or Meyer, I struggle to find a better option for Rutgers right now.

Exactly. He's already rebuilt this program once. Doesn't mean he'll 100% do it again, but it does lower the risk of failing.

So he brings instant credibility to the lifeblood of any program and that's recruiting:

"Hey [insert legit Big Ten recruit here]

1. I rebuilt Rutgers before& have a plan to do it again
2. I put guys in the NFL. Check out those 4 starters on NE for example. Ever hear of Ray Rice (damn, I wish he could say that without hesitation)..
3. I was a head coach in the NFL
4. I was good enough for Meyer and Saban
5. I was good enough for Bill Belichick
6. I turned down Bill Belichick to come here (OK some might start to think he's crazy)
7. I was 2018 National Recruiter of the Year so will recruit other studs for you to play with"

The excitement level of the re-awakening will be dope (is that the right terminology these days)!!

100% I believe it.
A hybrid clone of Shula, Noll and Lombardi wouldn’t win with this roster
I don't think that was the question. You said "Even if it is not GS. . . "
Do you think that he might not be named as HC?

If our average recruiting class over the past few years is ranked in the 50's shouldn't we at least be able to have a team that is top 50-60 level on the field (borderline bowl eligible), rather than #135 in Sagarin, below 16 FCS teams including Dartmouth and Princeton?

You want the story to be the first game, not the bad football since then.

Hiring a coach today makes the bad football the story.

Not if you can’t recruit linemen on both sides, TE’s...and a true game changing QB you think can bring you down the field....last possession.

That depends on whether a person is viewing the situation as glass half full or half empty. Negative Nellie's: glass half empty and want to ride the coattails of 150 years of mostly misery...which I feel is a good portion of this board. Or people looking towards the future and turning this program around: glass half full and using the publicity of the anniversary to promote your new hire and use it as a springboard of optimism. I don't care either way. I just want a good hire and I want it soon. At this point in time, and given the names possible for immediate uptick in the program's credibility, I think that person is Schiano. He may or may not be the best hire, but he is the best name out there to immediately inject some life into this program which has once again sunk into the abyss.

It has nothing to do with being a pessimist. Today is a PR event to celebrate something that happened 150 years ago, and Rutgers involvement in it.

It is dumb PR and small minded thinking to piggyback something like a coaching hire onto that. With Rutgers having pulled the plug on Ash early, they and FSU are the only active story surrounding coaching hires right now. We will get plenty of coverage if we announced a hire tomorrow, Friday, or next week.

Lol we will be barely celebrated today.

Hire schiano today and were being discussed on a national level in a positive light.

Problem with the recruiting rankings (well there are many, but one of the them anyway) is that there is a huge difference among the 2 and 3 star prospects. There are those at that level that have multiple FBS and/or Power 5 offers. Then there are those where we are the only FBS offer. We tend to have a lot more of the latter. So while our overall ranking ain't so bad, if you really dig, what we are seeing on the field is not at all surprising.

The cult here might think the only way a Schiano return can be covered is positively, but the main focus by the national media will be on how bad we are that we have to resort to a coaching rerun in a desperate attempt to return to mediocrity.
