Those of us who grew up with TO as the coach of our favorite team learned to decipher the seemingly nothing comments he made to understand they spoke volumes. Here are two classics from today that harken back to the old days:

"I think he'll be a good fit for Nebraska," Osborne said. "Right now, he's going to have to spend some time just getting to know people and observing the athletic department, deciding what he thinks needs to get done one way or another." Gee, I wonder what he think needs to "get done"?

"I think (Bounds and Green) did the very best they could to make sure they covered all the bases and got as much input as they could," Osborne said. "It was not a unilateral decision where one person went out and hired somebody with no other input." Bagged two with one shot.

In addition to opening the checkbook, the new AD now has a great incentive to win across the board for athletics. Sounds like he isn't afraid of the challenge, which I like. I'd expect some changes internally somewhat soon and when I say internally, I mean his own AD staff.........how about starting with basketball, hint hint.

He might get turned down, but he mentioned in the press conference that all of the coaches he's hired have been "proven winners". The 2 main guys he hired at WSU (Leach and Kent) had a lot of head-coaching experience. Is Frost a "proven winner" yet?

Then again, he also mentioned that how they "fit in the community" is one of the most important factors he looks for in a coach. Frost would seem to fit that bill.

I see frosty as a competitor. I think he would embrace the challenges of a fish bowl type of environment. Hes done it before and succeeded.

How do we define a proven winner? How many wins per year? How often do they do they play for conference titles? Im interested to know Moos opinion on this.

I just find it funny that people will bash Eichorst for the one man process, but if the one man process had been successful or had he hired who "we wanted" the process would have been fine. So in reality the process wasn't what is pissing people off, it is the result of the process. I get that, I just don't agree with it. Now we have a PhD, criticizing "the process" when he did the exact same thing, and he did the same thing with behind his boss's back.

TO was at the absolute peak of his profession when he made the decision to ensure that a program with unbelievable success for over a generation stayed in tact. This has been proven to be a program that has little to no distinct advantage in the world of college football aside from the fact that they had developed an incredible program with a ridiculously successful culture.

I have no problem with SE being a one man committee. Hell, that's what he is hired to do, run an athletic program. I just think it's funny that we criticize TO for "criticizing" the process. Heck if Riley would have been successful the process talk goes away. As I said, it wasn't the process, it rarely is. The one man hiring process has worked on some occasions and failed on others. The committee approach has been both successful and a failure. People just like to look back with all the info they have now and say, see I told you it was the process.

I think TO was calling out Harvey as much as he was calling out SE. But you're right, TO was as guilty as those two guys, albeit TO's choice being much more successful than either Harvey or SE's choices.
