Wait no one here looks at Pitt as a rival. No need to play them. I say WVU schedules BYU. That’s not that far away.
Best way to screw your rival is to kick them while they are down.

Playing Pitt does nothing for WV.
The game will be put on FS1 or ESPNU and no one outside WV or WPA will talk about it.
Games against Penn St, Alabama, Tennessee, VA Tech and Florida State are better for recruiting and better for WV from a national standpoint.
Those games will be watched.
Doubt WV/Pitt comes remotely close to equaling the ratings of WV/Tennessee.

Pitt isn't. Pitt gets ND every 5-6 years because of the ACC. They don't play Clemson or Florida State every year. Clemson doesn't have the name of Oklahoma or Texas yet. People don't watch Clemson. Your ACC championship game had horrible ratings. Plus Penn State is refusing to play you because you are a waste of space on their schedule.
Football isn't like basketball. You only have 3 OOC games.

Pitt was never the hated rival to me that they are for others. Growing up in the southern part of the state, then living in Virginia for 3.5 years during the Vick era solidified VT as my most hated rival.
Still I would like to play them as it is close by and our fans travel far enough for other games. I would be open to playing Marshall every year if the games were all in Morgantown.

Pitt no longer has the value it once had.
WV is important to Pitt because WV can fill their stadium.

The talent out of Virginia and Maryland is comparable with the talent out of Texas.
The talent in WPA is no longer.
If WVU can get 15 of the best players from Maryland and Virginia and then get the other 10 from elsewhere or instate WVU will win a lot of football games.
The best 15 players in Western PA will get WVU 6-6 and 7-5 seasons.

Both Universities are better together. I hope in my lifetime WVU finds its true home side by side with Pitt in the same conference.
That same conference deal will never happen unless eastern football returns. We all know that has about as much chance of happening as it does WVU getting an ACC invite. Zilch.
