Marcus Burwell took a long, winding road to become a Division I basketball player

The path from Richmond to Division I basketball has been anything but straight for Burwell. But despite a trying series of twists and turns, the former Thomas Jefferson High School player hasn’t lost his way. Guided by his mother and grandmother, impacted by the deaths of his uncle and another close friend, and moved by seeing his father spend time in jail, Burwell remained committed to his dream of playing college basketball at the highest level he could.
